What are you doing when you want to relax these days?
What are you avoiding in the same circumstances?
Me, I've gotten into popular music out of (mostly) Hong Kong. It started over a year ago, and has gradually come to dominate my person playlist, although I still listen to other kinds from various and sundry places around the world, including three totally local groups.
I'm clueless about the meaning of the lyrics of the Chinese music, but it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference. Yet, a curious thing happened about a year ago. I grew fond of one song in particular by Lowell Lo. Working on and off over about three months, I wrote a poem loosely inspired by it.
Well, at least I thought it was 'loosely'. Turns out when I got curious enough to look up a translation of the lyrics, the poem was not only on nearly the same theme as the song, but also used some of the same imagery as the song.
Make of that what you will, if anything.
