Trump wants a few executions while he's still in office...

I'm going to presume it's more of a "fireworks display" for his presidency, than a nasty streak. But it can't help but be noticed that he wants more executions during his lame-duck period than have ever happened before. And of course (well why not), they're mostly black.

That's all my editorializing. Anybody want to contribute?

(By the way, I am absolutely opposed to capital punishment. Whether anyone deserves death is a question that I can't answer, but whether I deserve, through my government, to inflict death on others -- that I can answer. NO!)

No links? I do not doubt that Trump would want this, but a bit of evidence would be nice.

I assume he means of criminals already on death row.

The high rate of executions during Trump’s last weeks in office, explained

I don't agree with the death penalty either.
Some feel the DP is necessary from a sense of justice. More of a moral than logical stance.

I sincerely hope so. I do know that Biden is opposed to the death penalty, too.

It's a huge issue for me. First, because I know that we, being human, make mistakes. Just in my own much smaller country of Canada, I can point to convictions for what might have been (or were) capital crimes, that were later found to be wrongful convictions. When I was in my 20s, I met a woman named Isabel Lebourdais, who wrote a book called "The Trial of Steven Truscott." Truscott was accused of murder as a boy of 14, and sentenced to hang (he's only 3 years older than me, so a contemporaty, really). He has since been exonerated. But what good would his exoneration have done had he already been hanged?

    I've never forgotten this.

And there are others in Canada, all wrongfully convicted. Guy-Paul Morin, David Milgaard, Donald Marshall Jr. (just under the M's!).

But just the fact that we can be (and often are) wrong is not the only reason I object to capital punishment. It cannot be ignored that capital punishment is most definitively REVENGE -- it offers zero hope for rehabilitiation or, in fact, any good at all. And revenge is not ever going to be a worthy goal -- especially for a government against its own citizens.

I'd happily be an executioner. I would've loved to have been the one to fry Bundy. Or you could just join the armed forces or police force.

I personally find your comments repulsive. I am a Humanist. 'Nuff said.

Ted Bundy broke out of jail to just brutalize and murder more innocent young women. If you think his evil, monsterous *** being taken out is "repulsive" than I don't consider you much of a humanist. Some people are just evil and I've seen and researched enough to know that. You can't rehabilitate everyone. Some people make it their whole life's purpose to cause suffering and to feed off of that. They're parasites. They're full-blown psychopaths and there's no real treatment for it.

Yea i was going to say myself. If your on death row, you must have done something pretty heinous to get a death sentence.

There are death sentences I disagree with and certainly some wrong convictions, but I'll always support capital punishment in principle even though the system of implementation is flawed. We just need to work on bettering it.

That's why I still support an appeals process.

Unless, of course, you were wrongfully convicted. Do you think that has never happened? I listed three, in Canada, just with last names beginning with "M."

So "must have done something heinous" should be changed to "thought to have done something heinous, whether you did or not."

So you're good with killing an innocent human in the name of "the system." And had you been the executioner, and found out the conviction was wrongful, would you just have shrugged and said, "well, I guess it was his time."

    And when "it's your time....?"

Sooner or later the appeals process runs outs. And it still does not make an immoral punishment just.

Now you're misrepresenting what I said. I never said I was okay with innocent people being executed, and that the system needs to be continually made better. I notice you skipped my other post where I pointed out that some people are just evil and can't be rehabilitated. I'd be interested in trying to see you justify keeping someone like Bundy alive. I guess you opposed the Nuremberg trials, too.

Is a man who would feel glad to be a executionner fit that description of a sadist whose life dream is to cause suffering? I would say yes.
