In the UK, for example, people will be proud they voted for a Conservative government that will cut the social saftey net making people hungry or homeless or desitute if they think that will hurt immigrants (or single mothers, students, or some other tabloid villian) more than them.

The same reason people elect scum like him anywhere; because they thought he would focus his malevolence on the people they don't like - the liberals, Mexicans, Muslims, trans people, the wokes etc.
