[On Sunday night, Trump unveiled his proposal on guns in the wake of the Parkland, Florida, shooting that left 17 people dead. Guess what was left out of that proposal? Yup -- nothing on raising the age limit on the purchase of some types of weapons.]

[Tweeted Trump of the proposal: "Very strong improvement and strengthening of background checks will be fully backed by White House. Legislation moving forward. Bump Stocks will soon be out. Highly trained expert teachers will be allowed to conceal carry, subject to State Law. Armed guards OK, deterrent! On 18 to 21 Age Limits, watching court cases and rulings before acting. States are making this decision. Things are moving rapidly on this, but not much political support (to put it mildly)."]

Now who do you suppose Trump is referring to when he says 'not much political support'?

Clearly, he doesn't mean American voters: More Voters Than Ever Support Stricter Gun Laws, Poll Finds

Trump well knows that he has to appeal to his base or his approval rating will sink into single digits, plus the NRA has a financial stranglehold on the GOP, thus making it very clear that between guns and our children, guns win with them. The idea that it's about the 2nd Amendment, as some have repeatedly claimed, is just a disingenuous smokescreen as I don't see anyone here or in Congress that wants to take a law-abiding person's guns away.

I guess it all depends on where one lives. If your constitutes do not support the liberal ideas about firearms I guess you have to listen to your constitutes. What say you Pennsylvania voter.
Conor Lamb, Pennsylvania Democrat, supports gun rights

It's rather dopey to think that reasonable regulation is exclusively a "liberal" idea or that it somehow conflicts with gun rights. No one is losing their right to bear arms.

So, the Illinois legislature doesn't want to take away firearms from anyone under 18? Do you not think that there are others just like these knee-jerk politicians are not present in the U.S. Congress?

Given some of those on the left they sure want to.
And don't try and say there isn't.

Clearly 18, 19, and 20 year olds would be. They are adult citizens and are due every right recognized, the government has always recognized significant impediment as violation of the right.

Given all previous decisions, I expect the Florida law recently passed will be struck down. They can probably put an age limit on a whole lot of guns, but they'll have to leave widely available options.

So having to wait a few years until they're 21 to get an assault rifle (a small subset of guns) is somehow preventing them from getting any other kind of gun, as well? No, they're still able to bear arms. The right to bear arms doesn't mean the right to have whatever sort of arms you want. Are you upset that the average citizen can't get their hands on a rocket launcher or a fully automatic 50 cal. machine gun? The poor little fellas will just have to cry it out until old enough to get the big boom booms.

They can still get shotguns, hunting rifles, pistols, etc. correct? So how are they losing their right to bear arms?

By "knee-jerk" you mean trying to do a little more than just sticking a thumb in their butt while offering worthless "thoughts and prayers", right?

I see some are trying to distract people from the liar-in-chief infesting the White House. I won't be distracted from job one - getting the degenerate out of the White House and his owned-by-the-kleptocrats extremist right wing Congressman and Senators out of office as well. We need to stop the destruction of the USA and that goes into high gear this November.

Both the Florida law and Trump's proposal to raise age limits banned sales for all long guns, not just the big bad scary ones. FFL pistols sales are already federally restricted to 21+

https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2018/7026/BillText/er/HTML
Line 678: "(13) A person younger than 21 years of age may not purchase a firearm. The sale or transfer of a firearm to a person younger than 21 years of age may not be made or facilitated by a licensed importer, licensed manufacturer, or licensed dealer. A person who violates this subsection commits a felony of the third degree"

Trump calls for raising minimum age to buy all guns to 21
"President Trump again called for raising the minimum legal age to purchase all guns to age 21"
Trump pulls back from big changes to gun laws after Florida shooting
"More contentious proposals, such as raising the minimum age for buying guns to 21 from 18, or requiring background checks for guns bought at gun shows or on the internet, will be studied by a commission"
