The stars shall fall from heaven...

In the Gospel of Matthew the final recorded sermon spoken by Jesus one verse reads;

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.
Matthew 24:29

Assuming Jesus actually spoke these words, what did He mean and why?

First what do you consider those stars are.
And what does it mean the sun shall be darken and the moon shall not give light.
What does these all mean?

My understanding would be to look at it as a metaphor. Firstly I would connect the spiritual revelation of Jesus the Christ to a material meaning, to see if we can then understand what it may be saying. Then once we do that we may grasp it in the spiritual sense.

So we could see Jesus Christ as the Sun. We could see the moon of that Sun as the Word of God that continues to shine after the Sun of Christ set and then the stars would be those that became the teacher (ministers, priests etc) of that Word to guide the people through the Night.

So when the sun is darkened, it would indicate we are no longer seeing the Sun of Christ, and
when the moon is not giving the light, it would indicate that the Word is no longer giving the meaning intended, and finally
when the stars fall from Heaven, it also means that they no longer teach what the Word intended, they have fallen from the heaven of Christs Word and become worldly bound.

In that way we can see this event happens before the dawn of every new Day at the start of a new cycle of light and life.

Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

It is a reference to the days of the dark ages and the persecution thereof, "after the tribulation of those days" (referred to in Daniel 7:25, 12:7; Revelation 11:2-3, 12:6,14, 13:5; Luke 21:24.)

And as such, ties directly to the events of the 6th Seal, currently under way:

Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

You do know that you left out the most important 3 verses in Matthew 24.

That will plainly show when all those things will happen..
Do you know what those 3 verses are in Matthew 24?

It would be reasonable to consider Matthew 24:29 as a meteor shower if it we were talking about falling stars in isolation. However in the same verse there are other phenomenon such as the sun being dmmed and the moon no longer shedding its light which together would not plausibly be associated wit a meteor shower. If we move onto the next verse of the text we have:

And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Matthew 24:30 has many problems if taken literally.

Hebrew scripture is rich with symbolism and there are numerous examples of how the sun, moon and stars are used metaphorically. I listed a few in post #3.

First of all..those stars are not Symbolism nor a Metaphor..
Those stars literally represent someone?

I agree Christ's Olivet discourse refers to two main periods;

1/ The fall of Jerusalem and the plight of the early Church and;

2/ Events many centuries after this first event that will be like the plight Jerusalem but instead it will be Christendom that falls into rapid demise accompanied by the Return of Christ. Some Christian's adopt a Preterist view that all the events of this sermon along with the book of Revelation all happened in the early centuries after the Crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. However there are problems with this view IMHO.

From a Baha'i perspective, the Great tribulation or Armageddon began in 1914 with WWI. That tribulation continues in different forms today.

The great tribulation for the Jewish people culminated in the loss of temporal power with the destruction of Jerusalem during 70 AD. This was preceded by Christ, and so too was the final loss of Temporal power for the Roman Empire preceded by 'The Return of Christ'. Baha'u'llah even wrote Pope Pious IX along with other world leaders making clear and explicit His claim.

Baha’u’llah Warns Germany, Russia--and the Pope

Not long after the temporal power of the Roman Catholic Church was markedly diminished to a shadow of its former glory.

Temporal power of the Holy See - Wikipedia

Consider the small area of the Vatican today compared to how vast the Holy Roman Empire was at its peak in the 13th century. The Jewish Empire reached its peak under King David and one thousand years later completely collapsed after successive exiles culminating in the diaspora of the Jewish people after the destruction of Jerusalem.

It is not just Christianity that has become corrupted, divided and confused but all religion. Are you part of the solution or part of the problem?

The beast in the book of Revelation does NOT refer to the United Nations according to Baha'i theology. An increase and intensification of international cooperation is exactly what the world needs. I could outline in detail the book of Revelation, what Empire exemplified the beast and its identity. However its off topic and I don't think you are too interested to hear how many of the prophecies have already been fulfilled in stark contradiction to what your church teaches.

All the best waiting for your apocalypse. :)

However you show yourself in not knowing or understanding the Christian bible..

There are 3 verses in Matthew 24. that will plainly show that none of those things happen after the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ..but are still future from us.

In those 3 verses alone shows that none of those things could possibly happen back in
70.a.d. As some people are taught.
But are still yet to take place still future from us.
Those 3 verses stands out so plainly like the nose on your face.
Read Matthew 24 again and see if you can figure those 3 verses out?

There one verse in particularly shows when all those things in Matthew 24 starts.
That when this one verse starts all the other things in Matthew 24 will fall like Domino's bringing in the end of this earth age.

And there's 2 other verses that hasn't come to their final fulfilment of prophecy that are yet to come to their fulfillment of prophecy.
Which is still future from us.

And there's 2 other verses that hasn't come to their final fulfilment of prophecy that are yet to come to their fulfillment of prophecy.
Which is still future from us.

14. Parable, comes from the two Greek words, para, beside, and ballein, to throw; hence to throw or place beside. It is a story by which something real in life is used as a means of presenting a spiritual or moral thought. The simple definition, "An earthly story with a heavenly meaning", is excellent.

Well it's evidence that you have no clue or idea what a Parable is.

A parable is taking one thing and it's compared to the other thing.
In taking something and compare it in likeness to another thing.
that's why it's called a Parable. Comparing something to something else.

Metaphor: Jesus tells his followers that they are 'the salt of the earth' in the book of Matthew in the Bible. This is a metaphor for the belief that his followers make the world a better place, just as salt makes food taste better. Personification: The concept of evil is personified, or made like a person,...

Let's take the Stars that Jesus Christ makes mentioning of in Matthew 24:29
" Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken"

Those are not literally the stars that we see in the sky at night..
When the sun is darken and the moon shall not give it's light what's the cause of this..
What happened at this time that caused those things of the sun and moon.

These things all takes place during the Tribulation which is still future from us.

You can't be serious..you got to be kidding right

Faith in God is no Joke, would you not agree?

We have great advice given about what the Bible means, advice such as this "The first coming of Christ was also from heaven, as has been explicitly stated in the Gospel. Even Christ Himself says that the Son of man came down from heaven, and the Son of man is in heaven; and no man hath ascended up to heaven but He that came down from heaven. Thus it is admitted by all that Christ came down from heaven, whereas to outward seeming He came from the womb of Mary. Now, just as He came the first time in appearance from the womb but in reality from heaven, so will He come the second time in appearance from the womb but in reality from heaven. The conditions that have been recorded in the Gospel for the second coming of Christ are indeed the same as had been specified for His first coming.."

The Sun, The Moon and the Stars can have many meanings, but it is most logical that they are meant in this way; "Hence, it is clear and manifest that by the words “the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven” is intended the waywardness of the divines, and the annulment of laws firmly established by divine Revelation, all of which, in symbolic language, have been foreshadowed by the Manifestation of God......It is unquestionable that in every succeeding Revelation the “sun” and “moon” of the teachings, laws, commandments, and prohibitions which have been established in the preceding Dispensation, and which have overshadowed the people of that age, become darkened, that is, are exhausted, and cease to exert their influence." Baha'u'llah.

I see they are viable explanations, but I see there are also many other ways we can Look at Sun, Moon and Stars in spiritual terms.

All the best, Regards Tony

Christ said:

If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
John 3:12

So if you don't believe the events of 70 AD fulfilled at least part of the Prophecy of Matthew 24, there's no point in explaining any further.

You may be interested to read some history:

Josephus had acted as a mediator for the Romans and, when negotiations failed, witnessed the siege and aftermath. He wrote:

Now as soon as the army had no more people to slay or to plunder, because there remained none to be the objects of their fury (for they would not have spared any, had there remained any other work to be done), [Titus] Caesar gave orders that they should now demolish the entire city and Temple, but should leave as many of the towers standing as they were of the greatest eminence; that is, Phasaelus, and Hippicus, and Mariamne; and so much of the wall enclosed the city on the west side. This wall was spared, in order to afford a camp for such as were to lie in garrison [in the Upper City], as were the towers [the three forts] also spared, in order to demonstrate to posterity what kind of city it was, and how well fortified, which the Roman valor had subdued; but for all the rest of the wall [surrounding Jerusalem], it was so thoroughly laid even with the ground by those that dug it up to the foundation, that there was left nothing to make those that came thither believe it [Jerusalem] had ever been inhabited. This was the end which Jerusalem came to by the madness of those that were for innovations; a city otherwise of great magnificence, and of mighty fame among all mankind.[18]
And truly, the very view itself was a melancholy thing; for those places which were adorned with trees and pleasant gardens, were now become desolate country every way, and its trees were all cut down. Nor could any foreigner that had formerly seen Judaea and the most beautiful suburbs of the city, and now saw it as a desert, but lament and mourn sadly at so great a change. For the war had laid all signs of beauty quite waste. Nor had anyone who had known the place before, had come on a sudden to it now, would he have known it again. But though he [a foreigner] were at the city itself, yet would he have inquired for it.[19]

Josephus claims that 1.1 million people were killed during the siege, of which a majority were Jewish.

The beast in the book of Revelation does NOT refer to the United Nations according to Baha'i theology.

:)
actually...….it does . the UN would like to be running the world .
it even has it in mined to take over by the year 2030.
my self I cant even imagine what sort of world shaking event it would take to make that happen. yet stranger things have happened.

Its obviously a belief of the Jehovah Witnesses church but it looks like unfounded speculation along with all the failed predictions reported in the watchtower publication.

Well the only thing wrong with what your saying...is that there are 3 verses in the book of Matthew 24. That refutes everything what your saying.
You would have to provide evidence that shows how you get can cancel out those
3 verses in Matthew 24..
Read Matthew 24 again that therein are
3 verses that cancels out the things. what your trying to say.

There are 3 verses in Matthew 24 that cancels out what your trying to say..
Those 3 verses alone out stands that what your trying to say. about 70 a.d. never happen.
And is still a future events that's still to happen.
Theres 3 main verses in Matthew 24..
That stands out to disprove 70 a.d..
didn't take place..but is still a future events to happen.
One of those 3 verses happen back in
1948 which is starting point of all those other prophecy of Matthew 24. Is yet to happen in our time.

The sun and moon and stars has only one meaning in Prophecy.
And not many as you suppose...

Jesus us referring to Daniel's story about the persecutions under Antiochus..

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
