This is exactly the kind of dung which the fanatic Muslims preach. This article shows that such crap is also in other religions

In footage broadcast by Hadashot news on Tuesday, Rabbi Yosef Kelner was seen disparaging women with careers as “gorillas” to yeshiva students at the West Bank settlement of Eli.

“They are weak minded. They just babble, that’s it. Women’s babble,” Kelner told students.

Well, we should be happy when someone shows their colors clearly. But, this one person's opinion may not be what other Rabbis claim?! Hope not, otherwise they are Rabid, pun intended.

There are numerous sexist statements in Rabbinic writings, such as, 'to teach a woman the Torah, is to teach her to commit blasphemy.'

Thus these illogical statements help create sexism, bigotry, racism, etc, and thus should be removed.

It is like how a Rabbi made a statement, that left soldiers thinking it is OK to rape none Jewish women in times of war.

In my opinion. :innocent:

I don't know who this Rabbi is or how influential the school he works at is. I've never heard if either. It's not uncommon for Rabbis to be against women joining the army, although usually the reason given is that of the other Rabbi in the article.

I did however find this article which includes a part that Hadashot unfortunately didn't deem important enough to include.

In reaction to the publication of these things, Rabbi Kelner sent a letter of apology. "I apologize that such a thing came out of me. Sometimes a person fails," he sent. "Today, I would not say these things. Everything is my responsibility, my friends at the preperatory school oppose the style and content [of my words]."

The preparatory school sent, "At Eli institutions there are over 40 Rabbis giving tens of lectures ever week. In them, full freedom of expression is preserved for both Rabbis and students according to their own perceptions. This is especially true in these types of cases where the words of the Rabbi do not reflect the spirit of B'nei David (the insitution) and the heads of the preparatory school disagree with them.
Edit: Also I think portraying sexism as a problem of religion is disingenious as it conveys that idea that secular people can't be or never are sexist.

Surely in this case we are discussing the views of a particular person ( rabbi) not religion in general.
on a "scale of possible views" his are particularly sexist....

The School seems to promote that their students should be exposed to a wide range of views that they can then discuss and accept or not as they wish. This is a view that is supported at many higher level institutions, but implies that they have no desire for particular moral and ethical standards be taught to their students.

If I may direct you towards the second sentence of the OP.

If the Rabbi had not apologized your point might have been valid.

I don't think anybody is seriously suggesting that sexism is unique to religion or to the religious; we are, however, rightly pointing out that religious beliefs, dogma & diktats can and do relegate women to second-class status in society, and often refer to them in derogatory or demeaning terms. Especially in patriarchal religions.

This would depend upon the scripture & history of the religion.
So sexism could be a fundamental tendency of one.
Is it in this case? Not for me to say.

Every religion has fanatics is one point. Every religion has those who interpret their scriptures in ways to disparage others by reason of gender, other religious beliefs and so forth.
And every forum has those who toss out such morsels while trolling for outrage. But, yes, there are some disgusting rabbinic wing-nuts in Israel. If this truly disturbs you, you may wish to donate to the Israel Religious Action Center. They are in the forefront of the fight against such nonsense.

The forum is rife with threads offering instances of wrongful behavior.
They go after atheists, Xians, Jews, Hindus, Muslims, Republicans,
Democrats, capitalists, socialists, communists, Iranians, Americastanians,
Aussies, Israelis, men, women, feminists, trans folk, liberals, conservatives
...you name a group, & it'll have someone who did something terrible.
It's what we do. We'd be remiss if we didn't expose wrong.
Calling it "trolling" won't make it go away.
Donating to a favorite charity isn't an alternative.

There are some here who have the "Islam is evil" mindset and I was responding to that mindset.

Right...I hope you have the same mentality of Muslims when they say exactly what you said in the bold....
