Michele Bachmann promises to ban porn if elected President....

I think any fool politician who allows themselves to be hog tied into signing such drivel should be run out of town on a rail

But maybe she really does believe that as President, she should enforce this particular moral code. Damn, that's even scarier.
Maybe she could appoint Tipper Gore as veep.
Then we'd have a bi-partisan all-female pro-decency team.
Woo hoo!
(I'd quickly be buying up copies of Big'ns if they won.)

It bothers me that both sides think the other side is the problem. They're reluctant to turn that critical eye towards their brethren.

It may bother you, but that is not what is happening, apparently. I'm not alone in being disappointed by the Democrats. It just turns out that I am also appaled by the extremes of the Republicans.

At some point things just become too caricatural to be taken seriously, after all.

Note how even you (a fountain of progressive virtue) see the problem as the mere existence of Republicans....no mention of Democrats or their extremophiles.

Who, me? :sarcastic

I'm hardly progressive. Just tired.

And I don't have a problem with the existence of Reps per se. I just wonder what happened to make them so. And refuse to just shrug it to the unfairness of existence. People ought to have discernment and act accordingly.

Maybe it is too much to ask. But hey, a guy has got to have hope.

That other side comprises the same thing, ie, good people, bad people, smart people, dumb people, & everyone in between.
They play by the same rules & use the same tools & techniques to win office....electing the same fallible human beings.

But only one of those sides is stooping to supporting such extreme policies as the GOP. It is a shame that the other is emulating it to such a extent, granted. Still...

The only real difference between people is the which side they join.
Sure, sure, there are some big philosophical differences between candidates campaigning in primaries, but by the time they finish fighting over the fence sitters in order to win 51% of actual votes, they've staked out some pretty close middle ground.

Yep. The actual problem is indeed the lack of awareness and political responsibility of the voters, not so much of the politicians.

The only real difference between the Big Two is that Dems pretend to like black folk, & Repubs pretend to like small government.

There is an additional difference. Reps, at least the succesful ones, usually like to pretend to be insane or at least criminally irresponsible as well.

Don't look at me like that. I call them as I see them, and I am certainly no trend-setter for Republican policy and campaigns. It is not my fault.

Since elections began....at least in this country. Pre-civil war electioneering history in the US is pretty fascinating in its brutality.

Whose standards? Mine? Hah!

To own a fully automatic weapon in the US requires permission of both the BATF & local law enforcement officials, plus an extensive background check.
SUMMARY OF STATE AND FEDERAL MACHINE GUN LAWS
I looked into acquiring a machine gun for museum display, but it wasn't worth the work & cost.
Anyway, the info is there for anyone to see, but lefty fear mongers find fiction more effective.

Fair point.

Of course you believe the Repubs are evil incarnate....you're on the other side. And I'm sure that Repubs also believe the Democrats are the problem.

They must be, if Conservapedia is indeed a serious site as opposed to a genius-level satire. I don't quite know what to hope for on this matter.

Still, just noticing the existence of the mutual disgust between two parties doesn't really go a long way towards showing that both are equally to blame. So I find your observation a bit naive. It amounts to an unsupported assumption out of an apparent desire to see simetry where there may well be none.

It's like arguing about whether raw oysters taste good or bad....they're neither & they're both. Believing isn't reality....it's only a perspective.

Still, reality exists, and we all must either accept it or run from it.

Bacon - YES!

This reminds me of something funny that happened at work, and which is totally off topic. I got a weird letter a few months ago, addressed to me, at the bank, and the envelope was smudged and dirty and the handwriting was all weird and gnarly. I opened it, with some trepidition, and found a note that said something along these lines:

Dear Ms _______,

I have some will hog meat to share with you. You ur a nice lady and I want you to come to my house. Don't smoke, no drugs. Beer yes. My house is down _____ road turn left at big yellow house not mine and then my house is secund on the rite.

PS I like sex.

Johnny ________

So now we have two lovely little catch phrases at work:

"I will have some will hog meat."

And - our favorite as five PM approaches...

"BEER - YES!"

Now - back to our regularly scheduled program.

A letter from a secret admirer! Funny stuff, but kind of scary to have a letter like that addressed to you personally.

Yes, I did turn it over to corporate security - after I made a copy! I actually have a file called "Weird stuff."

You say that only one side is doing it. Then you give emulation as the reason the other side is doing it to. Do you see the contradiction?
Moreover, how do you know who is emulating whom? I'd say you picked a side, & have become its apologist.

There is an additional difference. Reps, at least the succesful ones, usually like to pretend to be insane or at least criminally irresponsible as well.
Uh huh......I'd suggest a break from the Kool-Aid.

I don't say anything about equal blame....or any blame. Things simply are what they are, & we might be able to discern causative factors.
You may fault me for a desire to see things a certain way, but I suspect that as one who has picked a side, thine own eye has the larger plank.

Still, reality exists, and we all must either accept it or run from it.
Reality is a wonderful thing to grok....but all we have is our unreliable perceptions of it. A healthy skepticism of one's one beliefs is useful.
Objectivity is best achieved by minimizing emotion, which is best served by not becoming overly attached to one side or too opposed to the other.
Since Libertarians are feckless, rare & therefore inconsequential, I claim the higher ground above this fray. Of course, I could still be wrong...& often am.

Primaries do bring out the worst in those who need a rapid climb from obscurity to the big time.

But why would Michele Bachmann want to ban pork? She's not Jewish or Muslim, is she? How does pork really hurt anything? I mean, especially if you're eating it in the privacy of your own home. How two people decide to cook their pork is their own business. It's not like anyone is asking for a pork bailout or expecting their pork allotments to be subsidized by the government. And what's all this flap about pork stars? Who are they talking about - that pig named Wilbur? Who did he ever hurt? And what's all this about pork degrading women? I honestly can't see the connection - pork is just as bad for women's arteries as it is for men's. And I'm not even so sure about that - isn't pork the "other white meat?" Honestly, don't our politicians have more pressing issues to concern themselves with than PORK?

Oh, what? What's that you say? Porn? Oh...

This pledge is actually pretty bad.

Just read through the preamble of the pledge before the vows which leads off stating that African-American children were more likely to be raised by their parents prior to 1860 when blacks were enslaved than they are today. Not only questionable in it's historical accuracy but highly offensive in it's implications in stating that black kids were better off when they were slaves.

Her PR people state that Bachmann was unaware of this language and does not support that statement but fully supports the vows. Which makes her look like an even bigger idiot.

I am all for banning pornography that is based on profit (which is the same as prostitution, and in fact many porn sites show sex with prostitutes), but non-for-profit pornography, made by a drunk couple let's say, should not be illegal. Unfortunately, Bachmann is basing her anti-pornography campaign in a right-wing, religious paradigm, instead of a left-wing, feminist argument.

This porn bit was nothing but throw in language in an attempt to basically detract somewhat that they are wanting Republican candidates to step forward and sign an anti-same sex marriage pledge. The President of this Family Leader nonsense basically admitted he doesn't understand what the porn part is about by trying to state it refers only to "forcing women into prostitution or pornography" rather than all pornography even though the pledge states "all pornography".

In other words, it's more Moral Majority, anti-gay ********. The fools that follow this garbage will rally around it anyway.

The only porn I think should be banned is bad porn. It shouldn't make us laugh.

Perhaps you should do some grad level research into comparing capitalist running dog porn with PRRC or USSR porn.
Inquiring minds need to know!

Well, I do know that Soviet undergarments were certainly not designed to look sexually appealing (if you must know, I read this while searching for a particular brand of Soviet perfume to be used as a potential gift). This would probably diminish their porn industry quite considerably.
