Mexico has enacted a ban on smoking in public as well as all advertising or promotion of tobacco products.

Mexico tightens ban on smoking in public places

Good? Bad? Indifferent?

I generally hate smoking and don't mind seeing it banned tbh. But I worry in a country like Mexico if it will be used as a way to trump up bogus charges against people or as leverage for police to be bribed.

Interesting. I don’t think corrupt cops need an excuse to harass people. Could they use this as an excuse? Sure, they probably will, but without it they would make up another excuse.

I don’t have a problem with this. It could actually save lives.

Good, probably...

Though I would hate living under that. I don't smoke, but my husband does. Every time we had to go some place, I can picture him rushing so we could get home, so he could have a cigarette....

Tell him to give it up.
Give him a stern look.
He'll comply.

Less deaths from cancer. Appalling.
Long since banned in the UK, which is great cos I don't want to be inhaling an addict's carcinogenic fumes.

People here (Mexico) are pretty happy about it:

Eh my country has banned public smoking for like the last three decades, with more restrictions being enacted within in those said decades in my state
In practice there are still designated “smokers areas” just a certain amount of metres away from kids, parks, residential areas, public buildings and weirdly enough from pubs/hotels/casinos
Basically when one is out and about and needs a smoke, they simply sneak out to the back of a building (or to their car/carpark, depending on the facility) with the rest of the smokers lol
