Just now I was reading in atheists dir and I realized something.....

Some religious people, and also religious institutions may need to apologize to Atheists....hard to hear? Yes but if religious leaders knew what Atheists go through because of believers. That seem to be something religion forget.

Sufism speak of that as practitioner one should respect every human being, no matter they are same or different than us.

In my past i was an unwise critique of atheists and I said things I know was false speech.

Believers and atheists may never come to a form of unity when it comes to religious belief.
But if we treat each other with respect. Maybe there is a hope for humanity.

I'd rather just judge people each based on their merits, atheist or not, rather than try to fit in with atheists as a whole group. However, I do owe an apology to atheists for kind of making blanket statements about atheists at one point - I did explain that I was only really talking about 2 or 3 people, whom I was debating, but that interpretation could still be lost if I don't continually clarify to the best of my ability and make sure I'm being properly understood.

Yes to see the action or speech as the important and leave belief/ non belief to eaxh person and focus on our own ways and how one can become better from within, ibstead of massive critique because people believe different

I think it is rather funny how atheists are the bogeymen on this forum, which is strange when you consider atheists rarely use atheism to explain away any bigotry they have.

Speaking only from my own experience when I was extremely against atheists.

I believe it comes from fear, that what if the atheist is right? What if God isn't a old man in the sky :)

I suspect many atheists, or agnostics, know what to expect from some (certainly not all) - those tied almost fanatically to any particular religious text or religious doctrine (plenty here on RF) - and such just flows over them as a stream over a boulder, and even if there might be a little wear it is unlikely to have much of an effect. Might explain why they fight back so much though - if they are that bothered. Me, not so much, given that my expectations of others is quite low all too often - particularly when one is fixated on some belief or other. Life is such. And judgmental attitudes reflects on the beliefs held all too often - so why bother getting upset about such - their problem, not yours or mine.

Someone wrote yesterday that atheism was the worst, apparently I am worse than Hitler to them!

My experience suggests there is a lot of very thin skinned gods out there, ready to take offence at almost anything.

I did tead that too. And that statement from one person is definitely not true.

Maybe some religious people try to be to perfect about them selvs?
I know I been like that before, thought i knew everything  oh how wrong i was.

That is what God or Allah say. It is OK to kill at times but no such leeway to non-believers.

There is certainly a spectrum of such, and where many don't tend to have this reaction to their beliefs. And perhaps they get more respect for being so?

You only have to read some of the religious texts to see how thin skinned gods are, I am a jealous god springs to mind. Then there is the god who tells us atheists do not exist, hardly surprising then that some followers are so touchy, it comes from their alleged god.

Certainly, in the short time I have been here some of the opinions I value most are from theists, however there does seam to be a correlation between literalism and hate. The more literal they are the more they hate others, which is strange really when so many religions claim to be about love.

It is true that certain scriptures speak of a jealous God, but it may mean something different if we do not see it as word for word meaning.

Some religious teaching look only outward to the physical world, and little in the inward world of each practitioner. That may be a reason for confusion

Yes, that is a bit strange, but perhaps coming from taking texts too literally. I've seem more hate speech coming from those with the more fixed beliefs, and often projected onto others, than from those with more open minds. But it is often to be expected.

Is there to little respect from spiritual people toward those who are not spiritual or religious? How can we fix it?

The hate speech amazes me, homophobia, racism, misogyny but as long as it is couched in religion I am supposed to "respect" their beliefs. This forum has made me much more militant, off to protest at a creationist event near me today, I would never of done that six weeks a go. But these people need to be held to account.
