Lady Gaga does it again with over-the-top "Telephone" video

Thoughts? Think she's gone too far? How would you feel about kids watching even a "clean" version of the video? Is she carving out a pop culture legacy a la Madonna and Michael Jackson?

Or, more simply, did you like the video? :D

I guess the worse you could say about it might be that it glamorizes murder.

It sure seems that way, don't it?

It's getting a lot of attention at the moment because of the controversial attributes. Gaga and Beyonce dancing around a bunch of dead bodies is a shock (it certainly wasn't what I expected).

There's also blatant product placements in there, too. LOL

The first time I saw it I didn't know what to think of it, but the more I've watched "Telephone", the more I tip my cap to Lady Gaga. She's gutsy. ;)

I have yet to watch it (because I'm at work :D), but I've heard plenty about it.

IMO, she's just going for shock value which is nothing new. Remember when Marylin Manson was in Laday Gaga's shoes? Ah, those were the days. Now you barely here anything about him.

The music industry is always in need of a "shock rocker" and Lady Gaga seems like she's up to bat. :angel2:

The only outrage is that such a pretentious and mediocre "artist" is as popular as they are.

This video wrongly perpetuates the stereotype that Lady Gaga is talented.

Hahaa, you big snobs. ;)

I understand the common denominator of Top 40 singers/songwriters who churn out the typical formula for mass production. I normally don't put pop artists at the top of my favorite lists, but I'm around it a lot (dance studio jazz and hip-hop classes, you know).

I think she's a fearless artist. And yes, I did say artist.

Shock value is good. The industry needs to be shaken up a bit every now and then. Otherwise, it's nothing but blase.

Oh, and I loved Marilyn Manson. :angel2:

I actually write and produce music, and from a production standpoint, the songs I've heard are actually very well produced pop songs with good pop hooks, and she has an adequately neutral pop voice which fits the music.. There's nothing particularly creative about the music, but pop music certainly has it's time and place.

I don't understand the hype over her being "edgy" or "controversial," as all music entertainment nowadays is completely scripted, polished, marketed, and mass produced. I don't know how much room there is for artistry when you're essentially a packaged product.

Bizzarely enough I do like Lady Gaga. Don't get me wrong, I think her "music" is awful, but at least she does her own thing. She isn't just yet another identical pop star to come out of the identical pop star making machine, she at least has a bit of an edge to her.

Like has already been suggested, she's a lot like pop music's answer to Marilyn Manson... just without the decent music :D

Yeah, I know about your talent, ATS. I like hearing what you have to say.

I think porn is art. I think pole-dancing is an art form. There are quite a few things about the commercialization of music or dance or the graphic arts or film that I understand is by all means packaged for mass consumption. Given that some people draw that fine line between "artist" and "charlaton", I respect that, but I also understand that show business ain't like any other.

I myself have to "sell out" from time to time (more often than not, tbh) and stage pieces that are crowd pleasers in order to make money. Oh well. :p

Madonna did her own thing, too. Her music defines mediocrity, and she knows it and has talked about it.

I get what you're trying to say, though.

Her music is not really to my taste, and the song reminds me of the Britney Spears song Circus, which is also not my taste.

I can't wait till I am forced to watch my sisters kids doing their version of this while I struggle not to burst a lung from suppressed laughter.

I like the video, kind of Jesus Franco meets John Waters, it bears no relation to the song thoug.

One thing that bugs me is that a video like the following doesn't get much in the way of complaints.

YouTube - Benny benassi - Satisfaction

But if a woman puts out a provocative video everyone is up in arms, it was the same with Cristina Aguilera. I thing the message is, it's ok for a man to expoit other men by using a scantily clad woman as a lure, but if I woman does the same thing it is perverse.

Violet.
She's an interesting character.

I'm not sure she's happy.
But I think she's making the best of a situation
(musically) where she's not really allowed to do her own thing.

"The Fame"

I get the sense she's actually saying something of depth.
She's far more interesting than most any of the other hack pop "idols"
out there right now.

At least she's a real musician, to the degree that she is.

Most of these faces, are nothing more than faces.

She actually DESIGNS AND MAKES her own masks.
I like that.

Also, no great suprise, I love how she Owns her own Sexuality.

It doesn't strike me as containing anything much different to what you already find in most Rap videos. Any kids who are into people like 50 Cent or Snoop Dogg have already been exposed to partial nudity, the glamorisation of violence/gangs and bad language.
The only difference here is that the "artist" in question is a woman.

Oh! theres plenty smut on pop shows veiwed by youngsters! full of woman with not much on getting plenty money shots in there and they dont give a damb about how youngsters are effected. My 8yr old boy cant take his eyes off gaga and I think would she be notivced if she was well wrapped up? Personally her and the likes of her would be more suited to porn, not pop shows! JMO
Do yous mind your young children watching this crap? Maybe I dont belong to these times eh!

Kids love lady gaga, I wouldn't let a small child watch the uncensored version of the video, but I don't see any harm in the ''clean'' version.

The thing is where you see smut , you're 8 year old most likely sees an interesting visual and hears a catchy song, not much different to ''The Wiggles''
