Our Esteemed President is concerned that we're all flushing 10-15 times due to the Dastardly Democratic insistence on low flow toilets. He wants to save us. So, denizens of RF, how about it? Do you need saving?

I have a bigger problem with the stupid sinks, that drizzle tiny amounts of water, and then shut off after 1.5 seconds by timed censors.

    ...It is annoying.

Also, I just spent over $14.00, after taxes for 4 basic lightbulbs at Target.

I don't think flushing toilets are the answer. They are a transitional technology, encouraging bad posture and poor diet. We should use biodegradable plastic bags and have a compost service that recycles the stuff. As it is we are depleting our soil, burdening our water treatment plants and throwing away useful material.

Low flow toilets are for small people. That's truth. Some folks need a more powerful flush. Some don't.

So when I go to poo in a plastic biodegradable bag I shouldn't feel so bad, for fear of being thought bad of, for not having a toilet LOL?

Why would you feel bad about doing the right thing when it would be easier and cheaper to use cheap nondisposable bags? Since you are being responsible you should feel good about it. Toilets have been important as a tool to get people to stop pooing on the street. That doesn't make them the last word. They are convenient, but the sitting types are not good for your bowels. Squatting is healthier. Also sending your waste down a water chute is certainly not superior to containing it in a sack, and that is because if it comes into contact with bacteria in the outside world it can pass on characteristics to make them more dangerous. In fact researchers have been talking about how dangerous it is that people are flushing waste, because it contains gut bacteria which contain snippets of DNA that help your bacteria to survive in your body. These bits of DNA can be absorbed, sometimes by other bacteria in the environment, creating super-strains of deadly bacteria and drug resistant bacteria. So, no you don't need to feel bad about not using a flush system. The main thing is to be clean.

You can flush squatting types. And there's the Squatty Potty to make the Western toilet a squatting toilet.

Nothing beats the convenience of a urinal, but for #2 you can equal or better a flushing toilet with disposable bags. Toilets take time to reset, occasionally get clogged, make noise, break down, sometimes invite pests into your home. They also take up valuable space and are always filthy inside their plumbing. They're just nasty devices, and there is no way around that.

For #2 using a bag system can be just as fast as a flush system, but you need the right setup. What you need are 11-13 gallon biodegradable plastic bags. You place a bag or double bag into a lightweight basket, so light that even a child could hold it with one hand. Don't use anything heavy. Look for something 9 nine inches square sided at the top and also about nine or ten inches tall. It should have a wide rim that you can grasp easily. It should have lots of air holes, so that bag goes in immediately and lays inside. You use that, and also have a separate urine receptacle.

Congratulations! You now have a morally superior way to defecate over those who use flushing toilets, and its faster, healthier. Don't brag though, or everyone will start doing it. Then there will be a tax etc.

Still...flushing the stuff releases gut bacteria into the environment, and this creates a bad situation. Occasionally the environmental bacteria can acquire DNA from our gut flora, and this has the potential for creating new strains of killer bacteria. Somebody posted about this recently, but I don't remember who.

Some water miserly toilets are better than others.
I forget which model I found & installed all over the place.
But it beats every old 6 gallon/flush old school toilet I ever had.
    I know....
    I had to unclog'm.

So this basket you're referring to do you just set it in the corner or what cuz that would tend to get a little smelly hence why I said it was a lot of work that I have to carry a bag to the trash receptacle every time I go to the bathroom which is a 2-mile round trip LOL.!

That 2 mile trip is not convenient. That would make anybody want a flushing toilet.

I flush IV lines and access devices after each medication is administered. Unused ports, of course, need regular flushing according to protocol for the particular device.

The only time I flush, which is very rare, is when I get embarrassed.[IMG]

I have a ton of high quality incandescent bulbs from my old business in my garage. They average several years of life even if on 24/7. The only problem is that no matter what I sell them for that they will cost more in electricity than LED's.
