Drug addicts for instance, i know so many heroin addicts etc who have active Facebook accounts and it keeps their mental health in check communicating with their social circle through Facebook. They even look happy when they put pics of their girlfriends and dogs and all the rest of it on there. You wouldn't even know these were low IQ people. They fit right in with society and seem just as happy and jovial as all the other normies on Facebook. The only time is that they use poor grammar and writing sometimes but that doesn't even matter. They are still happy and the lack of good spelling doesn't stop them enjoying life.

Now if these people know how to navigate a Facebook account which is their main source of happiness and good dopamine levels then how can low IQ have hindered them in life? Many high IQ older folks and upper class tear their hair out trying to keep up with technology yet a drug addict can make a facebook account and use it through his smart phone with no difficulty at all.

Low IQ seem much more happier than high IQ. You might call a rapper low IQ but yet he is happier than Jordan Peterson who is high IQ but always looks depressed and tired and miserable.

Why do you assume drug addicts have low IQs?

There is a difference between IQ and EQ or emotional intelligence. You could add to this spiritual intelligence, or SQ, as well if you will. Someone can be highly intelligent, but emotionally underdeveloped, or certainly spiritually underdeveloped. There are different lines of intelligence we all have and are all at different stages of those.

That someone has a low IQ does pose certain disadvantages that can affect happiness, such as being gullible and taken advantage of, not being very discerning, not applying critical reason to situations and end up in bad positions as a result. That will have a direct impact on their lives. So it's not a matter of one as better than the other, but each line should be important in their own right to one's overall sense of happiness and well-being.

At uni there was a professor of science, department head, his interest was superconducting materials. IQ close to 150.

He was completely incapable if changing a blown fuse on an appliance and got lost going to the refectory.

I believe happiness has no relationship with IQ. In fact, IQ is very difficult to equate to life other than the mental skills to get high scores on IQ tests. It is true that people with a high IQ have to be less social and extrovert.

Colleges no longer even consider IG as a criteria for admittance. Nonetheless I believe high IQ persons have a skill set that makes them better qualified for certain jobs..

... I'm a little disturbed by how substance abuse is being cast in the opening post. That isn't a happy place, pal.

I don't put that much stock in IQ as a measure of intelligence. Also, my father is quite intelligent, as in he's able to recall facts and understand things easily, but he did take drugs and has taken many stupid decisions in his life. I don't see how IQ, drugs and such are related.

However, if I was to rephrase this topic that may result in a more productive conversation; I have noticed that some people are blissfully unaware or chose to ignore the darker things in life are happier... On one hand I envy them since I get depressed a lot but on the other, I question whether it truly is a good thing. For example, it can prevent important changes from occurring. If you delude yourself into thinking everything is okay, then things just get swept under the rug. Being happy all the time, or presenting this image whether online or real life, to me seems unhealthy.

Perhaps a balance is best. Do feel sad, angry and frustrated at injustices but remember to balance it out with joy, great people and things you love to not fall into a dark pit of misery.

IQ isn't about the quality of life decisions.
It typically measures short term memory, analytical thinking, mathematical ability and spatial recognition.

Analytical thinking is involved in decision-making.

Well when you go into what the white nationalists say for instance, they claim that people like rappers or female porn stars have low IQ's and they say that these people are unable to think into the future and that they make bad decisions because they have low IQ.

And they say it as if it's a handicap and it would be detrimental to these peoples lives and that we should consider them beneath people with higher IQ.

Even some Republicans do it with tattooed people. They say that "anyone who has a neck tattoo is a low IQ idiot incapable of planning" as if the scientist, philosopher or banker who is tattoo free is a better quality person with more happiness because he didn't get a tattoo.

Some such as MGTOW even claim it about women in general "Oh women are beneath men because they use emotions to make decisions and have a lower IQ" and they say women shouldn't be in leadership positions and all the rest of it.

All we ever hear about is IQ, IQ, IQ as if that's the only thing that matters when evaluating a person. Yet all these supposedly low IQ people are perpetually happy and positive. Like if i am feeling depressed i can message a female friend and she will give me the positive vibes immediately to pick me up because she's always high energy and happiness. But a higher IQ investment banker won't perk me up the same way the lower IQ woman will.

I'd rather live the life of happiness and positivity like women, drug addicts, tattooed people or whatever supposedly low IQ people do than the dreary depressing lonely life that a lot of intellectuals do.

Well, as they say, ignorance is bliss. Low IQ people don't realize that they're not intelligent; many think they're smart and know everything they need to know in life. High IQ people are smart enough to realize how much they don't know.

But quite often, decisions are made emotionally, without analysis.
I notice people expending great effort analyzing which car to buy,
but when deciding to marry someone (a far more dangerous thing),
they don't do any analysis at all.

Has any drug addict ever done a cost benefit analysis of becoming
addicted? Nah. Even smart people will do things thoughtlessly.

Generally, smarter people make better decisions. There are, of course, lots of exceptions to the general rule.

I don't know about happiness, but high intelligence is a factor in survival because it allows one to adapt quickly to changing environments.

But in terms of being social and happy, IQ matters not one bit. None of these people displaying love and support to their Facebook friends cares about whether that Facebook friend is good at math, uses good grammar, can solve string theory or change a tire. It also doesn't matter in terms of dating and building a family. My fiance and mother of my kids doesn't get rid of me because i am unable to fix her refrigerator and get the guy who can fix it in to replace me instead. She just buys a new one while others would claim that me being too stupid to fix the refrigerator is some major dent in my masculinity and i should feel ashamed about it.

IQ is more a measure of how well a person will do in the education system than how happy they will be. I don't see a reason to assume any direct correlation.
