but there are many new people around the table.....so.....

God is insanely in love with people and for scant reason that I can discern, died a horrible death by torture for them, then rose from the dead, so that trusting Him, people receive eternal life, at will!

No vote as 'god doesn't exist' wasn't a poll option.

As an aside, it isn't the insanity of a fictional entity that worries me, but rather the insanity of it's believers.

Well ya see... Your response assumes a definition. I think we might be able to get everyone to agree at least on God being whatever created/creates the universe. Some folks believe a father figure did it, some random particles, some a thoughtless big explosion, some an always existing mind, some quanta, some a volcano, some a golden ox, and I'm sure there are many other held beliefs. I'd just like to know which one we're talking about when I get into a conversation.

The Bible & the Quran.

If you think the Bible says that God is whack-a-doodle that tells me that you're not real bright, just don't get it, didn't like it or you're the one whose a few bricks short of a load.

The Quran I do not hold to be God's word so I couldn't care less what it says.

The Bible doesn't say your god is whack-a-doodle. It's a perception gained from his conduct as recorded in its pages - and it's definitely a reasonable one - gives humans free will, wipes out almost all life on Earth to punish humans for using free will; would this sound sane to you if a human did it?.

But you stick to your cute little personal attacks since you have no actual argument to make.

The Bible says that God is holy. He created all; He giveth and He taketh away.

I can assure you you are mistaken as I, for one, would never agree to that definition. What makes you think the universe was 'created' at all?
Interesting. Are you implying that the universe doesn't exist? Maybe that it doesn't change. I seem to notice that it changes. Something creates the changes. Hawking talks about spontaneous self-creation out of nothing, still a creation, so I guess his God is self.

Huh? You seem to be reading a lot of inferences I didn't mean into things I didn't say. Coffee shop speculation isn't worth much to me.

Well, the universe seems to be continually changing. So, it's being re-created. Either something recreates it or it spontaneously re-creates itself. I would define whatever is doing the creation/re-creation as God. The universe as God is one definition. I would probably disagree, but it's a definition I can understand.

Not sure about the coffee shop thingy.

Change and creation are different words, with completely different definitions.

If insanity is defined as words, actions, or beliefs thereof which deviate from norms of the group, institution or organizational setting, then God qualifies for therapy.

Yes and no. I do understand your use of change and creation. It is my belief that a change requires a re-creation. I suppose that's a whole 'nuther topic though. I apologize for the confusion.
Well sure, when something 'changes' we apprehend it differently, and thus use a different word to describe it, and thusly bestow upon it it's own separate 'thingness'.

Language games.

This is neither here nor there in regards to your assertion that it could be universally agreed upon that we could or should name whatever is responsible for 'creating' apprehended reality 'god', nor whether such a creation ever took place or is required.

Ah, the ol' "I don't know what other religions believe but theirs is wrong and mine is right" philosophy. Religious tolerance at its finest.

Since there's no evidence except hearsay for an interactive God(s), we can dismiss those out-of-hand. The only possibilities left are no-God, and a laissez-faire hands off God. If there is no God, the question is irrelevant; and if there's a deist God, there's nothing by which we can even tell if It exists. So then given the apparent order of the universe, there's nothing to indicate that God would be irrational--i.e. insane. We can therefore conclude that if God does exist, It is not insane.

Rarely are questions here more decisively answered than that. You're welcome.
