For Atheists: have you done the Beatitudes?

I'm not sure what you're talking about. This always struck me more as promises about blessings that God would bestow, not commandments for any person.

I don't even know how to "bless" someone in a meaningful way. I don't put stock in magic.

Ok. I'm quoting the Bible

Did you follow it?
Sometimes. Somewhat. As a vague guide under certain circumstances, yes.

But not always, by any means. I don't find the primitive writings of ancient, ethically primitive, people authoritative. Much less modern people using those writings to support their own egotistical views.

You see, it's hard

It's not just hard.
It's impossible. Largely because it's so vague, nobody knows for sure what the Beatitudes even mean. Lots of people assume that their interpretation is what God wants, but it's still just their human interpretation of an ancient primitive batch of words.

Was the interpretation vague at your start?

NIV:

The Beatitudes

He said:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Very hard if you think about it, I can't do it.

There is a part missing. Something like “blessed are the cheesemakers”.
Or where did I hear that?

The responses are astounding, and Tom is doing well himself !
Coherency is like a teeter-totter, one has to find the true center !

Those are promises of blessings for being a certain way from a God that was created by humans.

The qualities in and of themselves are good qualities.

I don't see any reality in it though!
