For Atheists: have you done the Beatitudes?

What's your problem with me? Come on dude.
I have a problem with you?

You will need to let me know what it is, for I do not.

I do have a problem understanding your OP.
It seems to be missing some pertinent information for it to make sense.

Of course, if this is a continuation from another thread, It would be a good idea to to not only mention that, but to also provide, at the very least, the name of the other thread, if not a link to it.

Yes they do.

But Scripture isn't an authority to us.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

They do?

The beatitudes are all based on belief in god. Without belief in god as the foundation, you can take them and make them guidelines-cherry pick them for one's own usage-but at the end, because they god-focused, why would they apply to atheists, Hindus, etc-those who do not follow scripture?

If you leave out the religious part, and just look at the moral bits, it's a good recipe for a satisfying life. Hardly all inclusive, and quite primitive, but it's a good foundation. As long as you realize that there's also a lot more to learn about living a good life.

So we need to completely butcher them for them to apply?

Even with a belief in God people cherry pick and reinterpret the Beatitudes to suit themselves.

Take Trump's Wall as an example. Millions of Christians voted for Trump. Do you see anything in the Beatitudes that support walling poor people out of this Christian Nation? I don't.
What I see is Christian folks becoming like the Sodomites.

It's not a continuation from another thread.

The Beatitudes

He said:

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Very hard if you think about it, I can't do it.

Which of these cannot be done by an atheist?

Cannot an atheist be poor in spirit?

Cannot an atheist mourn?

Cannot an atheist be meek?

Cannot an atheist hunger and thirst for righteousness?

Cannot an atheist be merciful?

Cannot an atheist be pure in heart?

Cannot an atheist be the peacemaker?

Cannot an atheist be persecuted because of righteousness?

I don't desire the Kingdom of Heaven. I don't even think it exists.

4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.

Yes, I try to comfort those who are mourning. Other than that, there is no guarantee those who mourn will be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.

I don't want to inherit the Earth.

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.

I try to show mercy. And I yearn for justice.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.

While purity of heart and being a peacemaker are good goals, I have no interest in your supposed benefit from them.

10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

I have no interest in the Kingdom of Heaven. And I thought the 'poor in spirit' got the Kingdom of Heaven.

Very hard if you think about it, I can't do it.

Do what? There is no action even suggested here, only consequences.
