Last night I tried a new recipe, for rabbit and Dijon mustard stew, with tarragon. It was really excellent. I've frozen the half of it we didn't eat and I'll certainly be keen to do it again in future. It's an internet BBC Food recipe from Rick Stein. I recommend it. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of it.

My teenage son is keen to reduce our intake of beef and, to a lesser extent lamb, because of the impact of these ruminant animals on climate change (CH4 emissions). So I am extending my repertoire in the direction of duck and rabbit. Not exactly a hardship and probably healthier for us too.

In the process of baking a date and walnut loaf.

While the magic happens in the oven i am eating lunch...

A sandwich of homemade sun dried tomato and olive bread containing a slice of roast ham and chunks of compte cheese liberally coated with homemade fig chutney.

I made an orange cake on Thursday: just a Victoria sandwich with grated orange zest in the mixture and a bit of orange and lemon juice to drizzle on before assembling the two halves, with apricot jam as the filling. I did a half size one as a trial and it has proved so popular (with son and the woman in my "support bubble" - that's what passes for company, these days), that I'm going to do a full-scale one next week.

I know chocolate goes well with orange, but it tends to dominate and, being a bloke, I'm not a chocoholic.:D

If I pulled out the ham, I could gobble that. How do you sun dry your tomatoes and avoid mold?

My error, the tomatoes and olives were shop bought, i made the bread.

The figs came in a bucket a few weeks ago, a present from a neighbour

Apple pie with ice cream is good, yes, but honestly, I prefer it with a nice slice of aged cheddar. images.jpg

Love comte! Big favourite -- and the only cheese to put on a hamburger! (Beaufort comes close, but doesn't quite make it like comte.)

Oh, absolutely. Quite old, too, going back to 17th century England, as far as I know.

Interesting. I could risk a slice of pie and give it a try. I do love apple pie and cheddar cheese... I will keep it in mind the next time I buy apple pie. Thank you for the suggestion.

Its the cheese for anything. (Almost) i bet it even goes well with a deep dish apple pie

But a prefer fresh, runny goats cheese.

The morning oatmeal ... banana (prasad) from the Shiva puja, two tablespoons grated coconut, a handful of saskatoons, a diced apple, 4 tablespoons oatmeal, 1 tablespoon ground flax, 3 dollops of yoghurt, a hefty bunch of cinnamon. It'll get me going.
