    The lines are pretty blurred on internet forums, although I'm not sure they were originally.

    So if I were to debate discussions with a discusser, it would be a debate of a discussion but with a discusser?

    A discussion can be more like a friendly chat or a question-and-answer. Multiple parties in a discussion might generally agree on what they're discussing.

    It seems that a debate would have to have some point of contention or some proposition which two or more parties might disagree upon. Debates tend to be more adversarial, while discussions don't have to be.

    Yep, even if it's posting that you ate a chicken sandwich

    "We need scientifically verifiable evidence, or else I don't believe you"
    "But it was just a chicken sandwich"
    "Incorrect, you need to study science"
    "How can I give evidence when I just ate it?"
    "So, you admit there is no sandwich? liar"

    Debate seems to be more aggressive because there historically can be a 'winner' but you can't really win a discussion.. haha :p

    Discussion=strawman debate
    Debate=off topic discussion.

    So, it's similar, however debate thread gets more , bad arguments, etc., which is why I almost always put a discussion in a debate dir.

    so basically words have no general meaning and their open to personal interpretation.

    also, discussing a subject doesn't necessarily require a subjective statement or inclusion. posting facts about said subject might be deemed as a negative by some and positive by others.

    this makes no sense. it would seem such a thread should be in a private forum, or thread, if that is the case.

    that is a subjective statement and needs to be part of the definition on this site. its confusing.

    reason doesn't require agreement.

    stating facts doesn't necessarily lead to winning. if you're implying that a discussion is reasoning, then disinformation can become part of the reasoning based on the original post and basically implying that you have to agree with it.
