I can not explain it, but for some reason I find many similarities in Baha'I and Sufism ( not all sufis will agree on this) but knowing that Sufis back in the earlier times did speak with Baha'I leaders like Shoghi Effendi does make it clear of the connection.

There are probably a few similarities, but one difference is that a lot of Baha'is may see the Baha'i scriptures as one of the greatest modern authorities, while sufis might see the Quran as that.

While it's true that Baha'is pay weight to other religions, it's usually, I think, under and within the scriptural study and authority of the Baha'i scriptures.

Yes, there are differences in how we practice, but the philosophy of the teachings do hold many similar understandings too, at least for me who do practice Sufism looking at Baha'I from outside

Example of similarity is the tittle of Effendi, is a title of nobility meaning lord or master. My own teacher do tittle Effendi too. Just like Shogi Effendi in Baha'i

The Baha'i Faith emerged from a Muslim culture, so it's no wonder thar there are similarities.

it is logical that sufi islam and baha'i faith is similar. Baha'u'llah was a Sufi Muslim before he became a Baha'i

Look up Shaykhism. Bab emerged from that.

They were in view, a Sheikh or some Sheikhs should spiritually get in contact with the Mahdi and represent him. They believed if they were spirit wise in contact with the Mahdi, they should be able to recognize the one appointed by him among us.

The Bab first claimed he was just that (a door of the Imam Mahdi), then it moved because he wrote "scripture" that he was a Prophet and then not just the door to the Mahdi but the Mahdi himself.

I always thought one common teaching between Bahai Faith and Sufism is the emphasis on "detachment from Worldly things". Does Sufism emphasize on detachment?

    Yes absolutely:)
The only truly important in life is God, so even our own self or ego will have to be detached too.

Yes, there is a history related to Sheikis and Babi Faith. The Sheikhi school in Islam was established by a person named Sheikh Ahmad Ahsa'i. He believed that true Islam is lost and no reforming can possibly bring the original Islam back. He told his students that the manifestation of the Mahdi is near, and as soon as He appears, they must follow Him. After Sheikh Ahmad passed away, Kazim, who was his successor, became the leader of Sheikhi school. Likewise, Kazim urged his students to be in search of the Mahdi, as He would soon appear. Thus, when in the Year 1260 AH, the Bab proclaimed that He was the Promised Mahdi, the Sheikhis were the first ones who believed Him, and were the first followers of the Bab.

And he has no Ahlulbayt neither does Ba'ahallah. Good luck to your committee on showing miracles and bringing world to justice. :)

Yes, the Bab gradually declared His stations. He had different stations.
Most other prophets had different stations.
For example Abraham, was first a servant of God. Then He became a Nabi, and then a Rasoul. Later He became an Imam. All these titles are in the Quran, attributed to Abraham.

So he's the door to the Mahdi and the Mahdi too. Very rational. Nope it's not that he didn't change his stance.

I'm the door to myself. All Prophets are first and last Prophets that is what Seal of Prophets mean! Day of judgment is baha'allah period! Etc etc...

I think Bahaism is one of the most dishonest religions out there. Next level of dishonesty to oneself.

I see the teachings of the Sufi and Baha'i will have a lot of common grounds. Detachment from this material world is a great connection to.our spiritual selves, yet we need to balance that in the knowledge that Allah also gives this life to be lived to our full potential.

In the end the best common ground is our own heart. With our heart we can embrace a unity in our diversity of faiths.

Yet what will change hearts to become more excepting, to enable all to consider the elimination of all predudices?

    Regards Tony

The Bab told His followers that soon a Messenger of God will be manifested by God. The Bab told after Him, all must follow the new manifestation, thus He did not have successors. Some years after the Bab was Martyred, Baha'u'llah proclamation that He is that messenger that Bab had promised. Baha'u'llah mission lasted 40 years. He appointed Abdulbaha as His successor after His passing. Abdulbaha in turn appointed Shoghi Effendi as Successor after himself. So, this successorship, similar to Islam continued. After Shoghi Effendi, the successorship was passed to the Universal House of Justice, who is the Leader in Bahai Faith.
Bahai Faith does not use the term Ahlulbeit as Muhammad did. But in practice the successorship is there.

In my understanding to open up our hearts to others by embracing others as fellow human beings, that is a key to be like one.

The term Ahlulbayt is not used, because the offspring of Bah'allah didn't continue the lie. The Quran emphasizes family members are chosen and kinship is always part of succession, so to as to challenge disbelievers if they bring a forgery to then get their family and offspring on it if they can, one forgery after another pretending they are God's light and reminder, but they can't.

Baha'allah and Bab are not related like Mohammad (s) and Ali (a) or Lut (a) and Ibrahim (a) or Musa (A) and Harun (a) and they have no succession in their offspring.

    You are not a prophet.
