I wonder if he’ll get a hug and Bible after getting sentenced for murder. It’s a shame this promising pre-med student will never realize her goals. I’m really getting sick of cops who are scared of their own shadow.

Even before watching the video I predicted the officer would be 'white' and the victim 'black'. My prediction was correct.

This type of scenario is bigger 'news' right now when the media can play the racial dynamics angle. Here we go again! My point is this over-focusing on race gives people a distorted view of reality. And the media plays it up for attention.

Would a black officer and a white victim's case get as much attention?

At least he's been charged with a crime. But we see how systemic racism is continuing to cause the deaths of innocent blacks whose only crime is breathing.

Why do you assume race was the big factor in this case?

Do the research. This is not much of a racial issue as is an issue of police conduct when it comes to being a cop. He didn’t even announce himself. Now, you’re looking at the title of the video and thinking this is a media play on race but the thing is, she was black, he was white, he shot within one second.

    That is the problem.

So in that, what is your answer to the question I asked:

Would a black officer and a white victim's case get as much attention?

No, but if the victim was white, in this case, would she have been shot?

A lot to this. What is the area? Was it a "dangerous area". Walking up in a affluent neighbor, a cop is less likely to shoot someone through the window regardless of race.

Police a human and prone to make mistakes. Unfortunately when someone is authorized to use deadly force these mistakes can be a lot more tragic. Police need to be trained better at least.

Yep, another disgrace and stain on the profession.

I am willing to bet that he was not trained in what is called a stress academy. Everything is designed to put stress on the trainee. Classroom time is made extremely stressful to the trainee, everything is, every minute of the day. They are yelled at, made fun of, denigrated in the group. There extremely rigid rules about everything, you violate them, then a minimum five page essay about the infraction must be turned in the next morning, and you hear about it for a week.

Anyway, the Tac Officers watch very closely for coping skills, signs of breakdown, and a number of other things that at the end of 24 weeks, will determine of they can operate properly in stressful situations.

This guy obviously had no business being on this call. I blame the screening and training process as well as the killer himself.

If the judge hugs him, kisses him, gives him a set of encyclopedias after he is convicted is irrelevant to me.

I thought about the idea of being in ones own home, safe and secure and relaxing into some much needed recreation and then for that to just suddenly end...its so infuriatingly pathetic.

That's what the chief of police was saying at the press conference about this. He said that they're trying to train them better.

One thing I do know (from talking to cops around here) is that cops are trained to establish their authority in any situation they're dealing with. If someone gets in their face and defies their authority, they're trained to come down hard - as an example to anyone else who might be thinking of messing with the police. In other words, cops are trained to think of themselves as the cock of the walk. Even when they're supposedly being "nice," they're still insufferably arrogant.

So, I'm not sure if it's a matter of "better" training, or if they're just getting trained in the wrong things.

Best thing to do, IMO, is acknowledge their authority from the get go. However in this case seems there wasn't even a chance to do that.

As a cop, if you hesitate at the wrong time you are dead.

And not announcing himself made his action criminal. We definitely need more training and community interaction to help to end this.. Fear and shooting without justification needs a cure.

She was in her house. He didn't even announce his authority.

I don't believe that. Cops are trained to point to kill. How many real people know how to shoot to kill? Not many, I think.

Unarmed does not mean not dangerous.

*To the funny poster. Heard of a fist? If someone beats their/a family member they are not a threat right because they are not armed....

Use your brain for a change.

This is a crock. What the cops around where ever here is are dead wrong. The police are trained to assert authority when a situation begins to get out of control. ¨ any situation""does that mean talking to a 5 year old kid ? And what are they going to do if someone gets in their face ? Shoot them, beat the hell out of them ? Do live in a time warp in the 1920ś ? Cops are insufferably arrogant ? Bite me
