VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican on Monday declared gender-affirming surgery and surrogacy as grave violations of human dignity, putting them on par with abortion and euthanasia as practices that it said reject God’s plan for human life.

Considering that the Pope seeks some control over
non-Catholics, I say that he & Catholicism are
the real threats to human dignity.
BTW, Michigan (where Revoltistan is) just legalized
surrogacy. So **** you & your Supreme Court, Mr Pope,

How lovely.

(I find it sad that I have to explain that I am being sarcastic.)

I am in the process of reading the Declaration (called Dignitas Infinta- Infinite Dignity), and I have to say, I am finding some deeply troublesome language. I can't comment further, because I haven't had the chance to really study and think it through, except to say that I think the Church is making a "category error" in its conception of the idea of "human dignity," or even "human person" and "dignity" themselves, and that this leads to errors in reasoning.

Personally I just find it funny that with the way we blindly evolved some people in the 21st century still seem to think God has some plan for human life.

If God has a plan for human life the least God could do is intervene to hold global warming at bay for example, but nope - that is left to humans to deal with, then there is the inevitable problem of getting off this solar system when the sun likely goes red giant and no ready means of space travel having yet been properly identified.

God's plan for life?! Phfffft I say.

So much for the RCC becoming just progressive enough to survive in the 21st century ...

But fortunately...there is the separation of Church and State.
The law of the Vatican is nothing across the Tiber River... you know. :)

In Italy there is abortion, gender-affirming surgery and even euthanasia has been depenalized, de facto (but not decriminalized).

You need to understand the difference between depenalize and decriminalize of course. :)

It truly is whacko.

Thank goodness there is a separation between state and church. Can you imagine if there wasn't?!

Unfortunately this belief can still persuade some people. Why, all because of a book that was written 2000 years ago, truly bizarre.

I don't care. Not a Catholic. I don't live in a Catholic nation or am I bound by Catholic doctrine. So what? Just another opinion in an endless chasm of opinions.

If his Catholic bull tries to run over me, I would remind him this is still a protestant homeland.

Surprising that Pope is against mutilating people.

In its most eagerly anticipated section, the Vatican repeated its rejection of “gender theory,” or the idea that one’s biological sex can change. It said God created man and woman as biologically different, separate beings, and said people must not tinker with that or try to “make oneself God.”

Just a shame that God didn't apparently produce ALL humans with the binary male or female makeup then, so a failure by God? o_O

Where does the Pope give you permission to follow science when it clashes with church dogma?

In the Catechism, it states that we have the right of dissent, which does not apply to those who teach within the Church in regards to what they teach.

An excellent book [Catholic] that covers this is "May Your (Informed) Conscience Be Your Guide". However, I don't know if it's still in publication.

With 6 of 9 justices on SCOTUS being Catholic,
I wonder about the extent of separation.

Dissent too much, & you get excommunicated.

Wow, y'all are letting the anti-Catholicism flow in this thread. This really doesn't matter unless you're a Catholic. I was and I left over my disagreements with its teachings. You're not going to see me blow a gasket because they still uphold those teachings. This literally is nothing new. Surrogacy, IVF and sex changes have never been permissable under Catholic teaching. I realize there wasn't a specific teaching about transgender/transsexual people but you couldn't seriously expect them to approve of it.
