Ads on RF

No (though actually yes because we used to have both negative and positive Frubals for a brief moment). We used to have Frubals. They were in limited supply, we couldn't give them all day, and we could leave a personal message attached to them.
Those, and many other features, were done away with this place was sold, went corporate, and became about advertisement, clicks and money.
I'm still PO-ed about losing all the frubal messages.

The owners (the people who owned RF before the current owners bought it) promised everybody that once they got the new software up and running all of the messages would be restored.
I'm guessing they knew that wasn't going to be doable, or that they didn't know one way or the other and were just telling everybody what they wanted to hear.

Sucks. If they'd have been straight up about it everybody could have downloaded all their messages to PDF.

Scouring the internet for information on this and that, I have stumbled across other forums using a similar feature. It's been my belief they just had no intention of restoring all the features we had that helped build RF into more a community rather than another online gathering place to butt heads.

Oh I see. That must have been well before my time here.

Anyway, Lucia is the first time I have been interested in an ad on the internet. Ever. And I'm not remotely interested in buying the product in question! A marketing triumph. :D

They took a lot of tools away from the staff too. Notably a few options we had for catching sock puppets.
I've always suspected they did that on purpose just to saturate our numbers and make RF more desirable to advertisers.

Discrimination. Pro "monkey business" discrimination.

You've not had a lot of what this place used to offer. Like supporting this place used to get you a bunch of extras and was far more than just ad removal.
( hoping SW doesn't suddenly remember that we still owe her two Starbuck gift cards and a foot rub)

@Shadow Wolf I'm sure you remember the trophies too.

I still miss my "Most likely to start his own cult" award. :(
Yeah, I was on the committee and got pissed off when the Above and Beyond Award--originally made to acknowledge people like Feathers in Hair who went so far as to use what money she had to help and support at risk members and even making sure they had someone to talk to (using her own phone and getting phone cards for people)--started going to people who just kept a good, positive attitude and having it's value constantly dragged down.
And I also remember nearly dethroning the self-proclaimed Queen of Tetris in one of the supporter arcade tournaments we had. I never did get a rematch, lmao.

I have noticed newer (to me) mods have absolutely no idea what I mean when I say mods can't ignore people, just as it confused me the first couple times I heard mods can ignore people, because that's how it was put to me but in my perspective it's mods can now ignore people.

I don't think she's a Dolores

You reminded me of an episode of Seinfeld in which Jerry finds himself dating somebody whose name he has forgotten, and after getting caught going through her purse looking for ID, he tries to devise plan to get her to get her to tell him her name. So he tells her the story of how kids used to make fun of his name in school, and asks her if she ever had such a problem. She answers, "Are you kidding? They were merciless! What do you expect when your name rhymes with a part of the female anatomy?" So, for the rest of the episode he's trying to guess - Mulva? Gipple? Loleola?

Here he is trying to get her to show him an autograph from Olympia Dukakis hoping to see who it was addressed to, but foiled again. She finally realizes that he doesn't know her name and storms out. Then it dawns on him. Please forgive me if you find this silly, but it's pretty funny to me:

I'm clearly on ignore. I filled a complaint about email being broken and got no response. I posted a reminder and go no response.

Clearly I'm being ignored and can go hog wild except of course for the AI mod which looks for "hog" and "wild" and smites me with no human intervention.

We actually can now. I just found out about this recently myself.
Doesn't really make sense for staff to ignore anybody though. I mean, anybody we would want to ignore is probably somebody we need to keep an eye on anyway.

Edit: although the staff generally ignores me. But that was going on long before the software change.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I noticed ads coincide or is related with the thread topic on more than one occasion.

Once again I remember that a generous fellow
poster bought me premium membership. And I
cannot remember who did this great deed !!!!
I no longer see ads for Christian single women
who want to meet me. (Yeah, that's a thing.)

I buy that there are ads for Christian single women looking to meet someone.
I'm less convinced it's you.

No offense. If it's any consolation I put myself in the same bucket.

I had multiple nice messages from people long-since departed. Some even said I was 'relatively okay'. High praise!!

*quietly convinces AI bot not to go coco-bananas on sun rise for posting 'hog' and 'wild' multiple times in a single post*
