The virus is slowing down in some states not all of them. Texas is slowing down yay! I wonder if they are still going to send out 1200 dollars checks to us?

What is your source for saying it is slowing down?

The Governor just made an announcement for Texas on CBS. So we are slowing down. I thought we had some new rules that were less strict but I missed some of it because my tv bleeped out.

Your governor is a Republican, right?

Texas has only tested 124 people per 100,000 population. Compare that to New York, who has tested 959 people per 100,000 population. On the basis of such skimpy testing, your governor declares the spread of the virus is slowing.

Good luck with that, Riders.

If healthcare or medical trained people like doctors say it has started to slow down, you might be able to believe it, but what government says without any evidence, that i would be careful to listen to.
Even here in Norway I listen to the healthcare and doctors for real information about Covid-19 not the Government.

In the movies the governments usually take the point of view that honesty causes a panic and is not worthwhile. I expect and hope that the mortality rate is only 3%, but it sounds to me like it can be higher depending on what kind of medical care we have. They told us that it had an incubation period of up to 2 weeks. I hope that was accurate, too. It seems like the government is treating this is much more dangerous than the flu.

No idea how 280 new confirmed cases yesterday alone is it "slowing down"
But I guess that is what happens when you trust the snake il the politicians are selling instead of the actual numbers.

How does a virus slow down?
The infection rate - the number of people someone who gets sick infects others.

But also weather counts sometimes. There's hope COVID-19 is like some others and the infection rate will slow down during the summer.

A single number does not indicate slowing down or not slowing down. I've not yet seen state graphs that compare day over day numbers.

As to the hissing sound, let me just say that my level of trust is very low. Maybe I'm wrong but color me skeptical.

The mortality rate is almost certainly a great deal less than 3%. No country in the world has tested an entire population to find out who has actually had the virus and who hasn't. All they do, at most, is test those that come forward saying they think they've got it. And in many countries, e.g the UK they only test those ill enough to be sent to hospital.

Yet we know there are plenty of people who get it very slightly (I myself have been one of those), never report it and never show up in the statistics. The thinking of a lot of people in Britain is that the true mortality rate, i.e. deaths as % of those infected, rather than those reported and tested, is more like 0.5%........provided, as you rightly observe, proper medical care is available for those that get it badly. If we reach the overload point of the health system then obviously the mortality rate can rise.

The reason governments are treating it as more dangerous than flu seems to be not the mortality rate per se but the rapid rate at which it moves through a population with no immunity. It is this that leads to a potential overload of the health system, due to everybody getting it almost all at once, which does not seem to happen with flu. If we can spread the illness out in time, the health service can cope and then we don't have nearly such a problem.

The true death rate has now been calculated to be 0.66% according to multiple sources. Of course, we can never know for sure.

Novel coronavirus death rate is lower than previously reported, study says, but it's still deadlier than seasonal flu - CNN
