Amazon Has Banned Conversion Therapy Books; Will the Bible Be Next?

I'm glad you mentioned these particular OT Bible verses...these laws pertain specifically to ancient Israel. ..;)
A lot of people say that, but a lot of Christians don't care. As far as the "real world" goes, that argument has zero validity for those promoting conversion therapy and other anti-LGBT rhetoric.

Please believe me, I've never read the ISIS favorite Koran, I'm neither an ISIS member nor ISIS sympathizer.
I believe you. What I meant was, a few month back I started a threat on Islam forum about 1 dubious Koran verse, which I was sure was wrong.

Finally there was a Muslim explaining to me, that I was correct, that this was wrong, because many Koran versions are paid by extremist, so they contain twisted translations. The version he mentioned was SAHIH INTERNATIONAL (bad one). I was surprised; I thought that was a good version. Reading his suggested Koran made it clear. And coincidentally, in the same week in Holland, in the newspapers was written that they found out that many mosques in the Netherlands were also funded by extremists. Even a few hate Imaams were in Holland (they were banned from Belgium, but Holland is known to be "too good" when it comes to freedom of speech and religion").

He advised me to read "Rashad Kalifa" Koran. Big difference (more love, less dubious translated verses). My screenshot was from this Koran

Still there are plenty of cruel verses in the Koran. 1 female Imaam once said in a debate "Koran contains half the cruelty of the Bible". Bible contains quite a lot, so that means Koran contains also a lot (50% of enormous amount is still enormous amount).

Only the one you mentioned, when read in "Rashad Kalifa" Koran sounds quite reasonable. Especially considering the year 700. Probable most men were savages. So those rules were a great update. You can't cure all cruelty overnight.

But if you meant to say "This beating part of the women is wrong in this age" I fully agree with you. So I do not believe that the Koran can be blindly applied in the year 2000. I am totally against Sharia in the West. What they do in the Middle East that is their business, but I don't want it here. Good verses are welcome, bad ones should be blacked out (but the same with the Bible). Christians are easier to admit that there are bad verses in Bible than Muslims to admit there are bad verses in Koran (I did a poll on this, not 1 Muslim wanted/dared to admit, hence my conclusion).

"Talk it over then beat them" is pretty much just as bad as "beat them." If it where truly defending women, there would be no permission to beat us.
Glad to hear you speak out against "Koran verses" that should not be applied in the West nowadays. When I came to RF 8 month ago, nobody dared to speak out against "bad verses" I got the feeling. If something feels bad, then we should tell it.

What I explained was that this verse was taken out of context. Certain words were taken out of the same verse. That is not fair either.
But I agree this is a very bad verse to apply nowadays. As I explained in another reply, I can understand that this verse was already a great update compared to how the male savages were behaving before that. But I agree fully, that verse should be blacked out of the Koran. And not be allowed to enter the West IMO.

We have plenty of proof the last 2000 years that "bad verses" create bad animal tendencies in humans. Tell me your company I tell you who you are, is very true. People who read this (and in religion they brainwash people with verses, I know from personal experience) in the end start believing this

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
Well, tell the religious right to stop using the OT to badger people.
They're only specific to ancient Israel when it's inconvenient to follow them now. Laws against usury, mixed fibres and shellfish? Ancient Israel. Laws forbidding practices of anyone other than straight white men, like homosexuality or female sexual liberation? Bet your **** those are still in force.

Imho, the best policy in dealing with the religious right is simply to ignore them and avoid conflict; if they lack getting any attention from the mainstream press, then the religious right might be marginalized.

Really? I know many Christians, none of whom believe gays should be killed for their homosexuality.

I've known more than I care too who acknowledge that is gods law, how it will be/should be under gods law, and that's because it is gods law. It's not man's law, which is, to them, always inferior to gods law.

I prefer to have lunch with them.
This slowly gets them comfortable being around crazy atheists.

Killing is extreme. Even if they believe gays should be killed, 99% would not utter this. Even their conscience/fear tells them better not to say this
The church I visited, all 4000 Christians believe they should at least not practice, preferably "have it pray away" and start making babies

That is some pretty improbably odds you are defying there

You said it, not us.

A gross over-reaction.

Probably bisexual or repressing herself.

Would love to reply all of these but at a conference -- time is limited.

We fundamentalists are all coming together to talk about loving people (as we also celebrate the 100,000 sponsored child with Compassion INTL.) even as you insist on how horrible we all are.

A lot of Christians are terrible people. As far as human beings go, they suck. But it is you who jumped to the conclusion we think all of them are vile wretches.

Define “loving people.”
They are definitely not the ones who have harassed me about not believing, called me a ***, told me to leave (Indiana), called me immoral, or insisted my life must be without meaning and purpose and has to be a depressing one.

Geez. The ones I know usually just offer me a beer.
I could be mistaking the Pub for a Church again though.;)

For a "modernized Western 21 century" place, the US Bible Belt (roughly large chunks of the South and MidWest) is Western Society's festering pool of septic waste.
