Question for all of the atheists on here

Now we are getting some where. You claim they were wrong based on current knowledge yet ignore the fact that in their time is was correct calling something kind.
It's not a matter of technical, scientific correctness. It's just simple linguistics. Every language subdivides the world into different categories, and how they slice it up varies. In some languages the general term for bats and birds may the same, and would correspond to "flying animals" in English. Fish and whales? Same.

French divides "chairs" into chaises and fauteuils. In German "wall" can be a Mauer or a "Wand."
"Kind" is such a general term that trying to use it in any technical sense is absurd.

But that's not the question. The question is if there is nothing after this life, what's the point?

If there is something after this life, what's the point?
Is the point of this life to gain access to that next life? Okay...so what's the point of that next life?

It sounds to me like you're suggesting a life without purpose is pointless. Fair enough. The question, then, is whether one can bring purpose to their own life, and to the lives of those around them. I believe yes.

ChrstineM, BSM1, Lewisnotmiller. The point is our current life, which should be passed happily without harming others, and that is important. It is dissolution in nature after death, chemical recycling.

What? Me worry?
Need there be a point?

Why even get up in the morning if there is nothing after this?

If there is something after this life then there is reason to learn as much as possible to carry over. If there is nothing after this then, again, what's the point of anything?

It's said life is short. Fact is life is the longest thing any of us will ever do.
All our headstones will have a born date - death date. The dash between them is what matters. Make the best of the dash.

No one knows if there is anything or nothing after death because dead people don't talk.

That's not what the debate is. Of course there really no way of knowing if there is a next level of awareness, but the question is if you believe there is more than this miserable existence we call life. If you don't believe there is no more after this world, then why bother to even exist, let alone put yourself through the agony of living?

Yes, evolution in schools is often taught incorrectly, especially anything that is lower than a college level class.

My parents would say that nobody ever came back from the dead. However, as I began reading and believing the Bible, I see that some did come back from the dead.

I've asked that question of some. I want to live, I know that. I know that when I die, I won't feel or think anything. My body will disintegrate. I will go back to dust. But God remembers me, and He promises a resurrection.

Living is agony? May I suggest that many people need to change their life.
The point of living is what you make of life. People can think living is agony or live it to have fun. There is no redo.

This life is not all there is. God promises us a much, much better life than what we experience now, but as you said, there are many things we can enjoy in this life. We can look forward to, and hope, that God will bring this type of life to an end and grant those He desires to, life everlasting under wonderful conditions.

Carry over? Or being carried over? The important thing is the 'dash', as 'We Never Know' said. :)
Buddha was right. Our 'karma' affects others even after we are no more.
.. if you believe there is more than this miserable existence we call life.
Very pessimistic. Why believe? Cheer up. If it is bad today, it need not be so tomorrow.

"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, they will not care how devout you have been, but will embrace you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods but unjust, you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods then you will be gone, but had lived a good life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."

This seems more reasonable to me than treating this life like a weigh station. And it wouldn't matter if Allah or Anubis were holding the scales because the purpose wouldnt be desperately trying to live up to whomever's expectations so you can get something out of it.
