I agree ' thinking about hunger /poverty' won't make it go away.
That to me is one reason Jesus gave us the illustrative story about the neighborly good Samaritan.
One by one we are to widen out, broaden out, in showing practical love to a person in distress.
When Jesus 'fed and healed' people that was showing on a small scale of grand-scale blessings coming.
Jesus was giving us a preview, or coming attraction of what he will do earth wide during his 1,000-year rule over Earth.
In order for earth's nations to hear or learn about this healing is a reason why Jesus put preaching and teaching first in his life, and he wants his followers to do the same thing - Luke 4:43; Matthew 24:14; 28:18-20; Acts 1:8.
Other scientific people also became Christians. Christian or not, No one can solve mankind's problems.
This is why we are all invited to pray the invitation of Rev. 22:20 for Jesus to come !
Notice the coming action Jesus will take for oppressed humanity as per Psalms 72:8; Psalms 72:12-14.

Unfortunately for bible believers, economics does not work like that. It is the confident risk takers who have inherited the earth and the humble and meek are subservient to them.

If there were no sin on the earth or within us (I know it's a difficult concept for you to realize), there would be no anger. But there is righteous anger now, such as what Jesus exercised when he threw the money-changers out of the temple in Jerusalem. And Christians are told to put away anger such as what people in general typify. HE was the only-begotten son of God and made a true statement when he pushed the money-changers out of the temple in Jerusalem. He was not popular with the money-changers at that point on.
Just a quick glance at TV programs shows that people are belligerently working out their anger all the time. In real life (unfortunately) or in dramatic shows. Few parents really teach their children to control themselves in many different situations. I am convinced for this reason (along with proliferation of drugs), many people do not have a hold on their anger, which is one reason why we see so many senseless crimes today. But that is, of course, my opinion and probably not yours.
And yes, inborn sin inherited from Adam and Eve is a situational problem. I won't even go into the experiements the Chinese are doing on monkeys now to change the dna. Sad and not even too interesting for me because it's so sad, but the scientists think it could mitigate depression among humans, so they don't mind torturing a few monkeys in their striving for a change of mental condition.
