This is, by the way, a board devoted to religious topics for the most part -- there are weather and food boards for that sort of thing.

I see lots of civil discussion going on here. But it can degenerate into personal attack, proselytizing, and an assortment of other rule-breaking (forum rules).

I guess I prefer to learn about other aspects of life ... languages, skill sets, how they manage anger or egoism , that sort of stuff. In my personal experience, although a few people might be genuinely interested in my religion, but most people have alternative motives besides interest. The most common is so they can compare it to their own, and reconfirm to themselves that they are on the right track.
Not sure if everyone thinks anger is wrong. Or egotism. Many are egotistic but have a form of religion.

If a person is on a religious board, don't you think religion is a topic of discussion? I'm afraid I don't understand you here.

I see personal attacks from those who claim to be irreligious.

@Katzpur Thank you for your reply and I shall think on all of this. You are welcome on the link for Quakerism. Have any questions ask and i shall do the same if I have any questions on Mormonism. As for using a Mormon site...Why would I not? It is the Mormons who decide what their faith means not anyone else.I wish I could write more to your long response-clearly you have done a lot of thought on this-but I know too little about the subject to say much of anything.I also have other reasons why I disagree with the Mormon church but perhaps I need to look more into it before I say anything else.

Not your average Mormon

No problem, Ray. No response is needed, and I have no problem with your disagreeing with my beliefs. Have a nice day and thank you for being willing to answer any questions I may have in the future on Quakerism. I don't believe I've ever known any Quakers in the past, so I'm looking forward to having a new resource.

How is the ancient Gods are real and not made up, when virtually all historical sources recognize they were myths, in other words, symbolic ideas trying to explain life. There are other myths, too, including Egyptian and Norse gods. I haven't gone into them too much, and I'm not saying it's not interesting, but do you believe there were any other god-myths BEFORE Greek culture ideas were developed?
All pagan Gods are real (norse egypt etc).

I am one pagan who views myths as literal and not symbolic. :) Pagan is my religion. As a pagan I view anything pagan as real. :) If I didn't view them as real I wouldn't be a pagan.

OK, thanks for explaining. Not that I agree with you about viewing myths as real (literal) and not symbolic, but thanks for explaining.

Just wondering, however, about your viewpoint regarding other myths and gods. Some, for instance, say Adam had a wife that was cast to the bottom of the sea, from which the Lilith myth emerged. Do you believe that myth, too, as real? The Disney movie The Little Mermaid reminded me of that.

I know little about abrahamics, actually. Which myth is it?

You can look up Lilith in wikipedia. The question is: is the story about Lilith true because it's a myth that was quite prevalent among the Jews?
Also, notice what is written about Adam and Eve and their status after they took of the tree of knowledge of good and evil: "And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." So the LORD God said that the man became like one of them (the gods) knowing good and evil. (Genesis chapter 3:22)

Human morality superior? Dont know but certainly more complete as in it was not cherry picked to exclude everyone not in whatever religion is playing morals at the time.
If everyone on earth lived as you want them to live, from recent post with you, i would guess the world would be a boring, misogynistic, holier than thou place.

To me, the Golden Rule is Not human morality but on a spiritual plane.
I can't figure out how living by the Golden Rule would be boring, etc.
I find if everyone lived by the Golden Rule there would be No violence, No war, there would be compassion and mercy. Such loving qualities would make the world advanced in doing loving creative things for all to enjoy !

I find Adam and Eve already knew about 'evil ' according to Genesis 2:17 because the 'evil ' would be: Death.
Also ,by Adam breaking God's law, thus Adam took the Law out of God's hands and placed the law into man's hands.
Thus, Adam set up 'People Rule ' as being superior to 'God Rule'. Which rule would prove to be the 'evil ' rule.
Mankind's long history has proven that 'People Rule' can Not establish Peace on Earth, etc.
Man's evil has dominated man to man's hurt or injury.

However, through Jesus righteous mankind will see the return of the Genesis ' tree of life ' as per Revelation 22:2.
This is why we are all invited to pray the invitation of Revelation 22:20 for Jesus to come !
Come and bring the benefits of ' healing ' for earth's nations.

By the way, you and I are alive today. (I think we're both alive as I write this.) The ancients have died, some of their ideas continued, others did not.
To me, 'god-myths' existed even before the Flood of Noah's day.
People like Nimrod could have been influenced by post-flood stories about them.
As the ancient Babylonians migrated away from ancient Babylon they took with them their myth ideas and spread them worldwide into a greater religious Babylon or Babylon the Great.

There is a lot more to morality than treating people how you would yourself like to be treated
I can agree that if someone was as masochist enjoying inflicting pain on himself, but that is Not a rational person.
Plus, biblical morality as Jesus taught would include a chaste sexual morality.
Also, Jesus taught a NEW aspect to the Golden Rule as found at John 13:34-35.
We are Now to love neighbor ' more ' than self. That would be a more extensive love.
We are to have the same self-sacrificing love for others as Jesus has.

Yeah well people are human.

There is compassion and mercy with human morality, without it civilization could not have flourished so you could form your religions and then cherry pick morality saying this bit is ours and you cant have it unless you join our club which leads to war and violence

Why would anyone put a ton of effort into what other folks believe?
To me, one reason is because Jesus 'put a ton of effort forth' in teaching about God's kingdom as found at Luke 4:43.
So, by putting forth effort that could show a spiritual interest in comparing what other folks believe with Jesus.

There ya go, what business of anyone is it to police the bedroom? If i want sex in any way i choose and my partner (or partners) agree then what is the problem? Oh a 2000 year old book says its no moral, .sex was around far, far longer than the bible.

And loving thy neighbour, yeah right, just so long as your neighbour agrees with your interpretation of religion.

To me, the 'bottom line' is that if every person on Earth lived by the Golden Rule civilization would flourish better.
The religion Jesus taught would Not lead to war and violence as per Matthew 26:52; Revelation 13:10.
Jesus genuine followers lay down the 'sword '(weapons) They are like one type of person described at Isaiah 2:4.
They do Not use implements of war, but use farming implements ( meaning peaceful implements ).

Ouch, ChristineM,
As far as 'business', it is none of our business. God gives to all the free-will choice to choose to listen to Him or not.
Only, only if a person would like to live forever, then one would need to choose God's scriptural standards.
Of course sex was around far longer than the Bible. Bible teaches God created sex.
