We Are All Born Muslim

AdamRaja

Islamic Philosopher
I'm sure everyone will all agree that we are all born Muslim..
lol jk

In Islam everyone is born a Muslim and it is his/hers parents (along with social circles) that bring the child away from Islam.

The Prophet (saws) said that every child is born in Fitrah. In Islam this means a state of purity and connection to God.

When I say God I mean the ultimate force that gives us life not a bearded guy in the clouds.

In Islam it is not looked at as a religion but just the natural way of life. We are the worlds most looked down upon and knowing that raises me up.

OK, I think I can go along with you here.

Agree. I think that the medieval artists that depict God as an angry old man are violating the commandment to make no graven image.

Interesting. That thought is not unique to Islam. I heard a woman in church once say that her Christian faith is not a religion, but a relationship.

We are the worlds most looked down upon and knowing that raises me up.

I think that would depend on what part of the world you live in. I have heard this applied to certain smaller sects within Christianity as well.

What does connection to God mean? Is this just a feel good statement or is there a belief that there is a real connection? If so, what does this connection consist of and how could such a statement be verified?

What? Me worry?

Correct me if I am wrong but to be 'Muslim' you have to follow the teachings on Mohammid. However to be 'Islamic' you simply have to submit to the will of Allah or ___________ (insert you Deity of choice here). Thoughts?

Hey thanks for the feedback David. I appreciate your comments. I can't disagree with much of anything you said.

The feeling of unity with all. A sense of closeness to the source. I was a skeptical atheist at one point in my life. Then I had personal experiences that was mind melting and reassuring. That doesn't prove anything to you.. But it does to me. Which gives me a sense of urgency to want to share the love and understanding just to try and help someone who was in my place.

The teaching of Muhammad (saws) guides and reassures those back. When it was just Adam.. It was just Islam. Muslim means to submit to Islam which means submit to God. Islam is all there ever was but the Quran came to be because so many were worshipping false idols and also living badly.

Do you think this feeling is not possible without the existence of a God?

Our meaning of God are different. How do we exist? Some form of energy or life creating force. Whether you believe its an intelligent source or just chaotic.. You can't deny there is something because you are here breathing. That source of energy I call God. Call it what you want but that's what I call it.

So you're saying we have to choose to be either?

Nope born that way.. Then if you become something else you have to chose to come back. In Islam we say people revert not convert because there were born Muslim.
