If you have read the bible, what primary lesson did you learn?

In my opinion, the following books contain the best content in the Bible in terms of higher thought and sentiment:

Proverbs 1

Ecclesiastes 1

Two primary rules are what I try to keep in mind from scripture:
  1. there is no wisdom in opposition to God
  2. wickedness shall not make a way out of a bad situation.
Scripture references may be supplied if desired.

I have read the Christian Bible several times in my life (including within the past few months, even though I left Christianity over 30 years ago). I have read it for different reasons at different periods of my life. When I was a young man, I read it for guidance and reassurance. Later, I read it in order to critique it and to find fault in it. Now I read it for its wisdom and its literary value. The lesson I have learned from the Bible - or, more properly, from my interactions with it - can be summed up with the following equation:

(Z + K) - W < 0

You may have Zeal and Knowledge but, if you lack Wisdom, then you have less than nothing.

That the Bible is unique to the person reading it, thus, different verse can have many interpretations.

1. To love God even though he can be cruel and unfair.
2. God Loves me, but not in the human way, but in his own deity way.
3. That everyone sins and thats why he chose to die on the cross for us.

Good is perfect, therefore, it may seem like he is being cruel and unfair, however, if you could see what He sees you would see that He is a God of pure unconditional love

What is the difference between human love and love from deity?

Jesus Christ, the son of God, atoned for our sins, because He loves us, not God. That is why you must have faith in Christ before your sins are forgiven.

Haven't read much of it, got bored already somewhere in Genesis I think when I set out to read it like 10 years ago. I have read many excerpts from several others of its books, but hardly any in full.

Therefore, not sure whether my reply is valid for the thread's question, but, the lesson I learned:
That it's a historical document that made sense at its time but much of which seems pretty useless now (I mean, who the hell needs to know the lines of descendents of some guys a couple thousand years ago that are not even historically correct unless we are to believe that people then really got 500 years old or something?), and that for much of the content one would need some annotations to understand the historical contexts or cultural background.

Eclesiastes is one of the best pieces of writing of all time.

It's content seems a bit out of place with some of the other stuff.

Yes that's because as I understand it, according to even some Jewish scholars- Ecclesiastes may represent an extinct wisdom tradition within Judaism that was it's own distinct sect.

I learned that I couldn't take what was written as truth, given the inaccuracies and contradictions I encountered, and came to realize the reason there are so many differing traditions that hold it as their central authority is due to its ambiguity.

Oh no him being Cruel and unfair isn't necessary a bad thing. When he is wrathful its because he has to be. Its how order is kept in the universe.

If a human loves me. It will possible waned over time. His love was and will always be the same for me.

Unless you believe Jesus and God to be the same being.
