Skincare brand Dove lambasted online for ‘racist’ Facebook ad

I think obviously not the intent of the company. This was likely to show their product was used by women of all skin tones.

Would it have been better if the White woman had become Black?

Advertisements are generally meant to be obnoxious and controversial. They don't advertise with sensitivity in mind. The more stupid, controversial, and irritating it is, all the better. It's intentional in my opinion.

They advertise to draw attention to their product. Obviously it works.

That's why stupidity and obnoxiousness in advertising today is the norm.

It does seem like a rather strange ad. They could have just shown pictures of people using Dove, but someone thought up this thing with the shirt.

I would imagine it would be pretty tough to work at an ad agency where you have to come up with some new idea for selling soap.
