I feel American culture is threatened more by Christian fundamentalists than Islamists!

What do you consider things that define American culture?
I'm glad you asked. I humored the idea for the sake of this thread, but I don't think American culture actually does exist. There is rural southern culture, urban culture, western culture, eastern culture, middle american culture, etc. I can't think of a significant number of things that would support the idea of a single American culture.

Don't know about you but i feel threatened by people with guns. Murder is just the end result

People with guns do not bother me. People with hate in their hearts are far more deadly. People with hate in their hearts and guns are deadly. People with hate on their hearts and nail bombs strapped to their chest are even deadlier.

But that is not what the threat is apparently. The threat is against "muh culture". So yeah take it up with the OP. :D

Sorry Pat Robertson and Phil Chalmers!

Dear Phil Chalmers:

Phil Chalmers compares women who dress in skimpy clothing to pickup trucks.

I love the cheerleaders!

I also like shooting guns and supporting Israel. I appreciate the military.

Would evangelicals be horrified if this is the average Republican?

Absolutely. Radical Christians have far greater influence in this country than radical Islamist's ever will.

Should i worry for you?

And people with a truck loaded with Semtex or ammonium nitrate can also do a lot of damage. Of course you need not be muslim to get a truck and explosives. Eric Robert Rudolph comes to mind, or the ira. And anti abortionists who intimidate by fear and commit murder also cause damage because of hate

Exactly. American "culture " is extremely diverse, and would be hard to define in one blanket statement.

I think it will be ok in the end. Once everyone calms down and become rational again.

Oh really?

Muslims 'accept homosexuality more than evangelical Christians'

OK I looked at this and actually you are right. But American Muslims are more accepting than evangelical Christians.

Honestly its probably about the same when you look at just the fundamentalist. If you compare of all Christianity vs All of Islam. Christianity is by far more accepting.

How many LGBT Mosque are there? At most a handful. I could only find proof of one online.

Welcome to Berlin’s “liberal” mosque—where burqas are banned, and men and women pray together

Where as gay christians have there own website that will help you find one of the 8,200 Christian churches that are either LGBT congregation or LGBT affirming.

I was chatting just last night at the stupidity/frustration of trying to say there is a single collective American culture, and that Americans all act the same way. Saying things such as "This is America and we are x," or "We are Americans and we speak English."
Really, the only thing that is American culture is that we are a very diverse and heterogeneous group of people, ethnically, religiously, ideologically, and though we've long struggled to ensure the civil equality of all involved and proper humane treatment of all, those very ideas were written down into the very soul of American culture.

American culture is western culture. We have struggled, but we are moving forward. There are regressives that want segregation based on ethnicity/gender/sexual orientation/religion and all other identities. They are violent, closed minded bigots that reject the very idea of freedom. They go after peoples jobs and livelihood for the crime of wrong think. These regressives are the greatest threat to american culture.

The good news is. The regressives are losing the culture war. When push came to shove americans banded together to resist this threat. Liberal/Conservative/Black/Brown/White/LGBT/Straight/Religious/NonReligious have all come together.

If by accepting you mean whipping, throwing them off buildings, decapitation, torture and stoning to death. If thats the case the middle east is the most progressive place on the planet!

Cherry pickling again?

Homosexuality is legal in Bahrain, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

It appears not to be a muslim religious taboo but a local cultural one

There are exceptions true. #notall

But the vast majority do not approve of homosexuality. As proven by the lack LGBT affirming mosque.

Instead of saying "look at these Muslims here" and "look at these Muslims there," think of it this way; Earthquakes can be very destructive and deadly. This is an unquestionable, undeniable fact. Am I worried or scared of them living in North/Central Indiana? Hell no. Tornadoes, on the other hand, the last one I went through involved a rather tense atmosphere filled with worry and stress; this was because where I was (in a university basement), many of us had friends/family in the path of the tornado and close to areas with confirmed destruction.
The same goes for wildlife. Bears are very big, and very powerful. I don't need a park sign telling me not to approach them. Living in North/Central Indiana, pretty much I can walk/hike anywhere and the wildlife and insects are so very highly unlikely to kill me that I don't even bother to think or worry about it.
I suppose I can say radicalized Muslims are kind of like black widow spiders where I live. Sure, they are technically there (or, at least I'm assuming there are at least a few radicalized Muslims somewhere around where I live), but it's pretty much the very last thing that is going to kill you.
On a thread about American Christians, the threat of Muslims overseas is not even remotely related. And it makes you look very suspiciously guilty, and know that we are right, when you try to say "look over there, look over there." Christians, here in America, have some very terrible and extremely offensive ideas about LBGT that can only be described as hatred because these ideas are so far removed from reality. They are so vehemently anti-abortion, and so very clouded by their prejudice, they want to mutilate and destroy an organization that works so very hard to prevent the want of an abortion from happening in the first place, and they completely ignore the vital health services that are so much more frequently provided than abortions. They are so against teaching horny/curious teenagers anything healthy and true about sex and sexuality that they tell lies and speak falsehoods, and instead of taking rightful blame they want to place the blame over a high teenage pregnancy rate on a "corrupt society that doesn't turn to god." But, yet, those who turn to god in the first place make up the majority of those who go to PP for an abortion. The Ku Klux Klan is a Christian denomination. Atheists ridiculed and attacked by Christians. Civil liberties and rights are repressed and dissolved, here in America, by Christians.

Everything you describe applies to Conservative Christians. Of course others do fit the bill, but overall, the group around here that consistently hits them all are Fundamentalist/Conservative Christians. It most certainly wasn't a Buddhist or Pagan or Hindu being "concerned" about having to work with someone like me in the work place.
