Since he knew it was impossible to call islam a peaceful religion, he said it was both a religion of peace and war.
And constantly played the goal posting game and more or less, on the peace thing, he basically said "takes time just wait"

I also agree with both speaker's points of view wherein they said that discussing whether or not Islam is a religion of Peace is moot at best and inapplicable at worst.

we know the Relationship with the Jewish people was a relation of mutual interests ---
