I am interested in theist and non theist views.

I am atheist, so I don't believe in a theist version, but for me everything I see around me is my idea of heaven. My idea of hell is losing my parents.

Heaven I imagine as a place of complete order. Nice pretty "perfect" automatons spinning their gears in the land of the Lotus Eaters.

Hell I imagine as a place of utter chaos. No rules, and not even no rules. A world where every possible measurement or natural law is subject to change every fraction of every moment...or not.

Heaven I believe is that conscious idea of impeccable beauty (or what we see as beauty). As for Hell, in the words of Viggo Mortissen who played "Lucifer" in the movie The Prophecy, he (Lucifer) said:

"Hell is not lakes of burning oil or chains of ice. Hell is being removed from God's sight, and having his word taken from you."

As for the latter, if Hell exist and our souls are apart of God's word, I think this would be sufficient enough. The feeling of loss, a void, a separation of something you love and hold dear. Almost like your house burned down with all your possessions in it.

Speculation about Heaven & Hell....
They're the same place.
Whatever you construct for yourself in this life, you're rewarded or punished with more of the same in your afterlife.

So if you're an alcoholic in this life you're an alcoholic in the afterlife?

I don't really believe in heaven or hell as permanent places or even permanent states of mind. But I would describe heaven as a sense of peace and euphoria and hell is the feeling you get when you see cruelty and suffering all around you but you are powerless to stop it.

So no one saw the movie....

Maybe you people have read the story about the rich man and Lazarus?

As the story unfolds....
A conversation comes up between an angel and the rich man....as the rich man complains his torment.

How is it no one seems to notice?....
The angel and the rich man are close enough to have conversation...
but the angel says to him...
'...there is a great divide between us...'

Within reach and earshot of each other...and yet there is a great divide.

That's hilarious. Heaven must be constantly be bombarded by the screams of the suffering.

And people call Heaven a happy place...

Indeed....

I have seen so many movies and books about people suddenly realizing....
where they are, is not what they thought.

Rod Serling's Twilight Zone series did this now and then.

Within reach and earshot of each other...and yet there is a great divide.

It's a parable, that is possible to be in the same room with another person, and yet be miles away from them... heaven is not just about being in close physical proximity to others, but to be united in understanding - with love, honor, and respect for one another...

that's the problem that leads to hell, you cannot force anyone to open themselves up to receiving or giving love, you cannot force anyone to be happy... some things have to come from within - no borrowed oil in the lamps...

Its a different world and human mind can only comprehend what he sees/knows in this world. So its not really possible to describe it. One can only give general ideas. In Islam, we say "It has what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard of, and what has not thought of by any human."

With the idea of it being a different world aside..all of this life compared to eternal afterlife is literally nothing. Just like 1000 trillion is nothing next to infinity.
