Why does science have to explain everything?

I was reading a few threads of people seening aliens and demons and a few scientist chimed in that this is XXXXXXX.

Scientist are going so far as trying to determine how we fall in love. Someone actually has an Idea for using science to determine or moral standards.

Why is this?

Why does science feel the need to explain every part of our life from are earliest begining to our ultimate end?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Because there is always someone curious about how objectively we can explain phenomena.

It is not really a bad idea, either. A bit of a taboo, but not a bad idea.

Because the alternative would be to leave questions unanswered without a good reason, I suppose.

I love the scientific method, I just wish more than a handful of people knew how to actually do it. A lot of mainstream "science" is pretty bogus.

Only if you have a few studies to back that opinion up... as well as a bibliography (Harvard referencing please). Don't worry though, if somebody presents you with a contrary opinion you can just tell them that they are obviously less intelligent than you, thus winning the debate.


Now, back to seriousness.

I personally would say that scientific method is one of the most useful tools for understanding reality, but that should not lead people to believe that experience is therefore not valid. A lot of the people you see insulting (as opposed to disagreeing with) others for belief in the "supernatural" are either genuinely looking to be funny or extremely arrogant. "It hasn't been scientifically verified, therefore you are stupid to believe it" isn't a good attitude to have.
That's not to say you should believe everything you hear. If you refuse to believe you are right handed until you've got the opinion of an expert that's really up to you, just be aware that simply insulting somebody who believes differently from you is pointless and prevents anybody from learning.

Speaking from my own experience, I've seen quite a few threads dealing with the supernatural die because a group of people jumped in and said "you're all stupid". It's a shame really.

Because it is better to know things rather than to guess at them... In some cases.

Although guessing is prompt until further results shown by evidence. If we didn't have guessing it'd be harder for us to understand, maybe even impossible.

If something is a natural phenomena, it can be eventually explained using the scientific method.
Human curiosity drives the scientific method to discover the mechanisms of all observed phenomena.
Ignorance and filling in the gaps with uneducated guesses has never been a benefit to mankind.

Sure, sure. As long as "presumptuous" is the cherry on top.

It's normally not the data that I dispute, it's the way the data is interpreted. People are rarely aware of when they're biasing the material. Would they claim to be right if they were? Some, maybe.. :p

Another thing that irritates me are journalists. Lots of times, journalists are the ones who end up disseminating the information, and end up putting their own spin on the data by turning it into a "story". Part of that includes using synonyms, removing the data from the context and basically ruining what might otherwise be holy, peer-reviewed info. Of course, it is then the responsibility of the journalist and the reader to be skeptical.

Woahhhh, back the truck up. I have never condoned demonising the other side to win a debate. That IMHO is a Liberal tactic.

Why can't science ever just say, "we don't know for sure"?

There are many honest scientists and then there are folks who data mine for information that agree with their theory and disregard any conflicting facts.
