Homeopathy is bunk!

I'm going to take a small hiatus from my usual practice of going around the ring with religionists to take on a more secular box of hooey, in my opinion, homeopathy. IMO homeopathy is quakery, bunkum, at best harmless and at worst dangerous.

Anyone interested in defending it?

You know Auto, religion used to be simple, and in some places it still is. people go to the synagogue or mosque, give to charity, get married, celebrate the holidays with the family and get buried according to local tradition.

Or rather, homeopathic remedies are bunk, and talking to your doctor is helpful:

Those who had a series of five consultations with a homeopathic doctor experienced “significant clinical benefits,” - whether the tincture they received was a specially prepared “homeopathic” remedy used to treat rheumatism, or a placebo.
Patients given exactly the same remedies without the consultations did not gain the improvements.
The study’s authors said the findings suggested that simply “talking and listening” to patients could dramatically assist their health.

Oh, I totally agree. That's what I was getting at.

It's one of the reasons why people dismiss homeopathy, saying that their homeopathic practitioner helped them get better. It could be that they're entirely right in saying this, but not for the reason they think.

Homeopathists are also big into getting people to abstain from alcohol and caffeine. For a lot of ailments, if you drink some distilled water and cut out the booze, you will get better... but it's not because of the water.

oh wow, i better throw all my herbs away, and fast, before they damage me!! :D

Yep.I thought homeopathy was just expensive alcohol or water untill I got into it.

But seeing as Auto thinks it's rubbish and dangerous I'll go straight away and throw out the nux and while I'm at it I'll loose the flower remedies also. After all, I am sure Auto knows all about it, to have made such sweeping comments.

Homeopathy isn't just expensive alcohol or water- it's expensive alcohol and water with the original substance so diluted it is essentially no longer active. It's overpriced stuff if all you want is to feel better via the placebo effect.

So does this mean that the two of you have taken up Auto's challenge in the OP?

I hope people on this forum are educated on a few basics to realize that herbs are not homeopathic medicine. Herbal products are used in all types of medicine except for the so called faith healing kind.
