My brother and I and my brothers oldest son are diagnosed with "Aspergers" syndrome, basically higher functioning form of autism.
Personally I do not view autism as a disorder just a differance. There is a boy Allen that goes to school with my children who is diagnosed with autsim, he is a very sweet child that my children think is great. When I look at Allen I do not see something wrong, just different, which is also how my children view him.
Autism does appear to be a variance in wiring, deficient in some areas while being above average in other areas. All people have a natural variance to a small extent, it would seem that autism just has greater swings than what is considered normal.
I have vast abilities in some areas, physics, mathematics, music, electronics, architecture and engineering, but I also have great deficits in some areas to match,
social understanding, ability to use emotion, ability to recognise faces, ability to socialise, ability to understand social arrangements and many, many more.
While it is no secret that everyone thinks I am strange, everyone accepts me the way I am. I have logically studied many of the concepts that I do not understand, and from what I can tell, I am glad that I do not have an understanding of them.
I feel that many of us with autism have simply been blessed by God to have a different perspective than everyone else.
What is the level of autism that your daughter is diagnosed with?
The negative aspects of autism can get better with age, as a child I had a great deal of problems, I was jerky in my movements, I spoke with a stutter, I had a great deal of trouble with involuntary body movement, I always had a physical tick that usually centered around a noise and physical sensation as soon as one tick would go away another would replace it, I was always quite incapable of social activities with other children leading to always being picked on, but I was always great with animals and with my little brother.
I slowly got past these things as I grew older, I am still very very different from other people without a doubt, but I look on that in a positive light.
