The system is still very sketchy. States often don't keep up with their own files, or communicate with each other like that .

They are getting better with it and with technology the way it is there is little excuse for someone convicted of a felony in California to not be flagged in Florida.

"Convicted of a felony" isn't nearly an insightful enough of a criteria to be an effective deterrent.

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
The bottom line is that criminals and the insane don't care if there are gun laws or not.

There are about 340 million U.S. citizens, so it's not far-fetched to claim that 10 million of them are idiots, and/or delusional, paranoid, or just plain overgrown babies who want to play with dangerous weapons because it tickles their pathetic craving for an illusion of power. Come on by and spend some time with us. You'll be AMAZED at how stupid we've become, over here!
Keep it up,
your attitude will make you very popular some day.

AK-47s work pretty well under just about any conditions due to loose tolerances and simplicity.
True, they're great military weapons; dog-simple and practically bulletproof under adverse conditions; heavier and less accurate than most of the modern, 5.56 NATO arms, though.

The Russians came up with the AK-74 which fires a 5.45×39 round that replaced the 47 as an equivalent to the 5.56 and is quite accurate, same Kalashnikov design.
