FIH I'm not really sure what is meant. I just find it very strange that these are even mentioned. I wish I had more grasp on the subject. Hopefully someone will share some light on this for us.FeathersinHair said:Interesting! I didn't know the Bible discussed familiar spirits. (I was just reading "Good Omens", which feature a Witch Finder who has never read any of the bible except that which pertains to not suffering witches.)
When the Bible discusses witches, do you think they meant those who practice Wicca and Pagans? Or were they discussing something else?
I'm not at all surprised that Witches are mentioned, there were, of course, practioners back then and I'm not surprised that they are mentioned in a bad light either. As mentioned, we are not thought to be "of God" and so are thought "evil" by a lot of Christians even today as we were back then.Rex_Admin said:FIH I'm not really sure what is meant. 414 Satan or the devil and the other demons are fallen angels who have freely refused to serve God and his plan. Their choice against God is definitive. They try to associate man in their revolt against God.Rex_Admin said:How about you Scott? We know the Catholic church still does exorcisms(sp?) on these "demons". What is the thought on these passages.
I've always found this strange, it seems to me like christians believe the soul to be separate from us, something that we own and can be taken from us. I've always thought of it AS us, what we really are inside an earthly shell. Am i wrong?Soul - Everyone has one...
I understand these passages with the speculation that BIBLE cultures didn't understand the different psychological disorders like that we know about today or the different rituals or preferences of worship that some people practiced and it was tempting and more convenient to attach demons or wicked spirits to these events because they did not have other explanations to describe or control these behaviors.Rex_Admin said:The bible talks about all of these things. How is one suppose to take these type of passages?
