Friend Morse,

What does Enlightenment feel like?

Hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enlightenment is a state when the SEER and the SEEN becomes, ONE.
In that state the seer is no more
so no one is there or remains to experience or state IT.

Could we not consider other things to be enlightenment?

Thank you, by the way.

I consider enlightenment to be basically the same as being "animate". It is the power of existence, movement. All is enlightened. Can't you feel it? It is not something you need wait for in some distant afterlife. It is right here right now. It is the very moment of existence itself. It is BEING.

Friend Morse,

Everything is in fact enlighetened as simply because they are in harmony or ONE with existence except humans only because of the developed Mind that *THINKS*.
Once that is put away or stilled man too becomes ONE with existence and when everything is enlightened then there is no one to think about any question even about *enlightenment*.

Aye, just BE enlightened, don't think about it. It is not a becoming, not something to wait for, it is a matter of just being.

What enlightenment feels like is a great question. If enlightenment can't be described then at least those who can't describe it can describe how they feel.

Here are poems about the classic Zen 'sudden enlightenment' experience (easy because its so distinctive):-

Fathomed at last!
Ocean's dried. Void burst.
Without an obstacle in sight,
It's everywhere!

Joho, 12th Century

There I was, hunched over office desk,
Mind an unruffled pool.
A thunderbolt! My middle eye
Shot wide, revealing - my ordinary self.

Layman Seiken, 11th Century

An explosive shout cracks the great empty sky.
Immediately clear self-understanding.
Swallow up buddhas and ancestors of the past.
Without following others, realize complete penetration.

Dogen, 1200 - 1253

Great poems Wampus.

As well Zenzero and Runewolf, thank you for your replies. They have been a great help.

It's light. Sometimes it's light and fluffy.

Its not about the kind of light you can see, it's about the kind of light you can feel.

So the real duality isn't between light and dark, it's between light and heavy.

Which is why all the great Masters keep telling us to lighten up.

Friend Morse,

So having sex is a form of enlightenment?

Just for info: Sex is another WAY towards enlightenment! It is called TANTRA-YOGA.

Now, allow YmirGF to respond.

I can't tell you what enlightenment feels like. I can only tell you what gold fish feel like.

Slippery.

Under the right circumstances, yes, even sex can be an expression of enlightenment. The thing is your view of what "you" are undergoes a metamorphosis when enlightenment dawns and something you could call the inner senses come to the foreground of awareness greatly enhancing all manner of perception.

I understand, but...

It seems very peculiar coming from you.
