What if Santa Clause actually is real? It implies he is a multidimensional super-possessing spirit that possesses the guardians of children causing gifts to be given. The story about him coming down a chimney, then, is an allegory for what he actually does. He does come into homes, and he doesn't use the door. He does eat cookies and milk, and he does require that children be asleep.
