Song lyrics that connect or inspire you

I believe that God is everywhere and in all things. That being said I also feel God can enlighten ,teach and inspire us through all things, song lyrics being one. No matter your religious or spiritual belief (or no religious or spiritual belief) Music more than likely has lead to connection , or inspiration .You have come across lyrics that describe you or are similiar or online with your beliefs political,religious,or personal. I also say lyrics and not song because it might just be a section of a song that you relate to , or the whole song. I would like you to share those lyrics and explain why they mean what they do to you.

..."In time brotha,you will discover the light,
some say that God is black and the devil is white,
well,the devil is wrong and God is whats right
I fight ,with myself in the ring of doubt and fear
the rain aint gone ,but I can still see clear.."
..."Undersatnding and wisdom became the rythym I that played to
and became a slave to master self
A rich man is one with knowledge ,happiness and his health
My mind had dealt with the books of Zen,Tao the lessons
koran and the Bible, to me they all vital
and got truth within 'em ,got to read them boys
you just can't skim 'em ,different branches of belief
But one root that stem 'em, but people of the venom try to trim 'em
and use religion as a emblem
When it should be a natural way of life
who am I or they to say to whom you pray aint right
that's what got you doin right and got you this far
wether you say "in Jesus name" or Hum do Allah
as long as you know it's a being thats supreme to you
you let that show towards others in the things you do..."
..."(chorus)I've lived I've learned
I have taken and i've earned
i've laughed and I have cried
I have failed and I have tried
Sunshine, pouring rain
found Joy through all my pain
I just wanna be happy with bein me."

There is more good lyrics in this song , and I like the lyrics because I can relate my life and spiritual thoughts with them.:jam:

High Vibration go on
To the sun, oh let my heart dreaming
Past a mortal as me
Where can I be

Wish the sun to stand still
Reaching out to touch our own being
Past all mortal as we
Here we can be
We can be here
Be here now
Here we can be

AWAKEN SUNS HIGH STREAMS THRU AWAKEN GENTLE STRONG DREAMS REIGN HERE
GENTLE MASS .. .. MASS TOUCH STAR, SONG, AGE, LESS TOUCHING

Workings of man
Set to ply out historical life
Reregaining the flower of the fruit of his tree
All awakening
All restoring you

Workings of man
Crying out from the fire set aflame
By his blindness to see that the warmth of his being
Is promised for his seeing his reaching so clearly

Workings of man
Driven far from the path
Rereleased in inhibitions
So that all is left for you
all is left for you
all this left for you NOW...

Master of Images
Songs cast a light on you
Hark thru dark ties
That tunnel us out of sane existence
In challenge as direct
As eyes see young stars assemble

Master of Light
All pure chance
As exists cross divided
In all encircling mode
Oh closely guided plan
Awaken in our heart

Master of Soul
Set to touch
All impenetrable youth
Ask away
That thought be contact
With all that's clear
Be honest with yourself
There's no doubt no doubt

Master of Time
Setting sail
Over all our lands
And as we look
Forever closer
Shall we now bid
Farewell farewell...

High Vibration go on
To the sun, oh let my heart dreaming
Past a mortal as me
Where can I be

Wish the sun to stand still
Reaching out to touch our own being
Past all mortal as we
Here we can be
We can be here

Like the time I ran away
And turned around
And you were standing close to me

Like the time I ran away
And turned around
And you were standing close to me

Awaken by Yes from Going for the One. Splendid Chris. One of my all time favorites, as well.

I have been fortunate enough to see Yes Live twice, and also Jon Anderson for his "Olias of Sunhillow" tour. A stunning band live.

My choice is an oldie from 1969. Written by Graeme Edge of The Moody Blues. It is the closing track to "A Question of Balance".

The Balance

After he had journeyed,
And his feet were sore,
And he was tired,
He came upon an orange grove
And he rested.
And he lay in the cool,
And while he rested, he took unto himself an orange and tasted it,
And it was good.
And he felt the earth to his spine,
And he asked, and he saw the tree above him, and the stars,
And the veins in the leaf
And the light, and the balance,
And he saw magnificent perfection,
Whereon he thought of himself in balance,

And he knew he was.
Just open your eyes,

And realise, the way it's always been.
Just open your mind
And you will find
The way it's always been.
Just open your heart,
And that's a start.
And he thought of those he angered,

For he was not a violent man,
And he thought of those he hurt,
For he was not a cruel man
And he thought of those he frightened
For he was not an evil man,
And he understood.
He understood himself.
Upon this he saw that when he was of anger or knew hurt or felt fear,
It was because he was not understanding,
And he learned compassion.

And with his eye of compassion
He saw his enemies like unto himself,
And he learned love.

Then, he was answered.
Just open your eyes,

And realise, the way it's always been.
Just open your mind
And you will find
The way it's always been.
Just open your heart,
And that's a start.

Far too many for me to mention; I am a glutton for good music.........wow that's just broken a memory; and absurd thing to say, but Sony & Cher's "I got you Babe" is one of those songs that make me go all 'fuzzy' inside. I guess it is an association thing, but I am much with music as I am with a film, or a book; I tend to identify with the main male character....I actually 'become' that person while I am reading, watching or listening.

I guess I was at the sort of age when I was easily 'romanticized', and whenever I hear that song now, well, like I said, I go all 'silly'.:eek:

OMG YOU SAW YES LIVE??????????????????? GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH This is why I should have been born in 1955. I missed nearly every act I want to see. The only group left is Tool and they're nearing the end of their run. Completely missed the Aenima tour, which would have been the one to go to as well!!!

O well if the next albums good I'll just go to that concert.

Noone makes good Rock anymore. DnB is the only superb music presently being made.

World's Tallest Hobbit
One of my personal favorites is Jewel's "Hands"

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all OK
And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won't be made useless
I won't be idle with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We'll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
'Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
I will get down on my knees, and I will pray
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small I know
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's mind
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's heart
We are God's eyes
God's hands
God's eyes
We are God's hands
We are God's hands
And, of course, Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World"

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah
Err... by looking up the lyrics, I've just discovered that the verse I had always thought was "the dogs say good night" is, apparently, "the dark, sacred night." The last fits in with my tradition much better, but I'm going to have a hard time changing the lyrics in my head.

I've had 'Redemption Song' in my head all day, Opensoul.

Here are some lyrics I adore.

With steam, heat, and rhthym in the back seat of a car,
an adolescent perspective projecting life's broadcast to the stars.
It was love from the lips, and you were rapt by the hips,
and the promise was eternal but you couldn't see that far.

From 'Drunk Sincerity' by Bad Religion.

It's characteristic of Gregg Graffin. An articulate bash at religious dogma using powerful imagery, clever language, and subtle humour. All it lacks is Bad Religion's trademark venomous sniping, but it's an absolute cracking verse and for me the benchmark of clever punk rock.

The lyrics of the song "Boom!" by System of a Down make me nod in agreement and shout "Hells Yes!." Here are the lyrics:

I've been walking through your streets,
Where all your money's earning,
Where all your building's crying
And clueless neckties working,
Revolving fake lawn houses,
Housing all your fears,
Desensitized by TV,
Overbearing advertising,
God of consumerism,
And all your crooked pictures
Looking good, mirrorism,
Filtering information,
For the public eye,
Designed for profiteering,
Your neighbor, what a guy.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM,
Every time you drop the bomb,
You kill the god your child has born,
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM.

Modern globalization,
Coupled with condemnations,
Unnecessary death,
Matador corporations,
Puppeting your frustrations,
With the blinded flag,
Manufacturing consent,
Is the name of the game,
The bottom line is money,
Nobody gives a f***.
4000 hungry children leave us per hour,
From starvation,
While billions are spent on bombs,
Creating death showers.

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM,
Every time you drop the bomb,
You kill the god your child has born,
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM
BOOM/BOOM/BOOM/BOOM/BOOM/BOOM/BOOM

Why, why, why, why must we kill, kill, kill, kill
Our own, own, own, own kind...

BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM,
Every time you drop the bomb,
You kill the god your child has born,
BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, BOOM
BOOM/BOOM/BOOM/BOOM/BOOM/BOOM/BOOM
Every time you drop the bomb.
There are so many songs that lyrics really inspire me in some kind of way (even more than this song) and I'd like to put all the lyrics I love up on this thread, but I'm sure nobody'd care to read a whole bunch of lyrics that I like.

"How about getting off of these antibiotics
How about stopping eating when I'm filled up
How about them transparent dangling carrots
How about that ever elusive kudo

Thank you India
Thank you terror
Thank you disillusionment
Thank you frailty
Thank you consequence
Thank you thank you silence

How about me not blaming you for everything
How about me enjoying the moment for once
How about how good it feels to finally forgive you
How about grieving it all one at a time

Thank you India
Thank you terror
Thank you disillusionment
Thank you frailty
Thank you consequence
Thank you thank you silence

The moment I let go of it was
The moment I got more than I could handle
The moment I jumped off of it was
The moment I touched down

How about no longer being masochistic
How about remembering your divinity
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out
How about not equating death with stopping

Thank you India
Thank you providence
Thank you disillusionment
Thank you nothingness
Thank you clarity
Thank you thank you silence "

I have this thing about Irony. I believe that he's trying to tell me something, cause it seems to follow me everywhere I go. I chose Alanis Morissette's "Thank U" for this, because it means the world to me. This song is incredibly deep as well as thought provoking... i love it.
~~~~~~
Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" makes me cry every time I hear it... I dont identify with it, but i understand the helplessness of a situation. I love this song... I'd like to think that i'm feeling for the characters in the song, they'll never get out... she'll never escape... i'm crying as i'm talking about it... okay, well here it is:
"You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove
You got a fast car
And I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
We won't have to drive too far
Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living
You see my old man's got a problem
He live with the bottle that's the way it is
He says his body's too old for working
I say his body's too young to look like his
My mama went off and left him
She wanted more from life than he could give
I said somebody's got to take care of him
So I quit school and that's what I did
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
We leave tonight or live and die this way
I remember we were driving driving in your car
The speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
And I had a feeling that I belonged
And I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone
You got a fast car
And we go cruising to entertain ourselves
You still ain't got a job
And I work in a market as a checkout girl
I know things will get better
You'll find work and I'll get promoted
We'll move out of the shelter
Buy a big house and live in the suburbs
You got a fast car
And I got a job that pays all our bills
You stay out drinking late at the bar
See more of your friends than you do of your kids
I'd always hoped for better
Thought maybe together you and me would find it
I got no plans I ain't going nowhere
So take your fast car and keep on driving
You got a fast car
But is it fast enough so you can fly away
You gotta make a decision
You leave tonight or live and die this way"
Meat Puppets-- "lake of fire" (covered by the beloved Nirvana)
where do bad folks go when they die?
they don't go to heaven where the angels fly
they go down to the lake of fire and fry
won't see 'em again till the fourth of july
i knew a lady who lived in duluth
she got bit by a dog with a rabid tooth
but she went to her grave a little too soon
and she flew away howling at the yellow moon
now the people cry and the people moan
and they look for a dry place to call their home
and try to find some place to rest their bones
while the angels and the devils
fight to claim them for their own
(i just had to put this, its funny as hell...)
If you smile at me you know I will understand
Cause that is something everybody everywhere does
In the same language
I can see by your coat my friend that you're from the other side
There's just one thing I got to know
Can you tell me please who won
You must try some of my purple berries
I been eating them for six or seven weeks now
Haven't got sick once
Probably keep us both alive
Wooden ships on the water very free and easy
Easy you know the way it's supposed to be
Silver people on the shoreline leave us be
Very free and easy
Sail away where the mornin sun goes high
Sail away where the wind blows sweet and young birds fly
Take a sister by her hand
Lead her far from this barren land
Horror grips us as we watch you die
All we can do is echo your anguished cry and
Stare as all you human feelings die
We are leaving
You don't need us
Go and take a sister by her hand
Lead her far from this foreign land
Somewhere where we might laugh again
We are leaving
You don't need us
Sailing ships on the water very free and easy
Easy you know the way it's supposed to be
Silver people on the shoreline leave us be
Very free
I think this is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It's things like this at the times I feel 'anti-american' make me see some good in the US. Call me a hippy...
What I Am
Edie Brickell And The New Bohemians
I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know if you know what I mean
Philosophy is a talk on cereal box religion
Is a smile on a dog
I'm not aware of too many things
I know what I know if you know what I mean
Choke me in the shallow water before I get too deep
What I am is what I am are you what you are or what?
I'm not aware of too many things I know what I know if you know what I mean
Philosophy is a walk on slippery rocks religion
is a light in the fog
I'm not aware of too many things I know what I know if you know what I mean
Choke me in the shallow water before I get too deep
the johnny cash song, Hurt. the song is moving, but the video even more so.
I hurt myself today,
to see if i still feel,
I focus on the pain,
the only thing thats real,
The needle tears a hole,
the old familiar sting,
try to kill it all away,
but I remember everything,
(Chorus)
what have I become,
my sweetest friend,
everyone i know,
goes away in the end,
and you could have it all,
my empire of dirt,
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt,
I wear this crown of thorns,
upon my liars chair,
full of broken thoughts,
I cannot repair,
beneath the stains of time,
the feelings dissapear,
you are someone else,
I am still right here,
What have I become,
my sweetest friend,
everyone I know,
goes away in the end,
and you could have it all,
my empire of dirt,
I will let you down,
I will make you hurt,
if I could start agian,
a million miles away,
I will keep myself,
I would find a way,
