Hey guys, I just created an FB page for RF members, anyone is welcome to join: Security Check Required

It's main purpose is to give us a contact point in case anything goes wrong with the forums. If anything ever does, we can meet up in FB and take it from there.

I'm not expecting anything specific at this point, but the way the world is going I figured it wouldn't hurt for us to have a back up plan.

I also created an RF Discord Channel:

This is possibly the first good reason I have ever had to login to FB...

I joined and was told "pending". What kind of gratuity is required now?
It's free, but I think I have to approve your account.

Sorry, I haven't quite figured out how it works yet, but I'll OK your account as soon as I do.

I just went into the FB group and approved all the new requests.

There's supposed to be a way to automatically approve requests, but they don't actually tell you how.

OK, I just dumped the chat. Since it doesn't require a password we're already getting trolls.

Need to set up something else.

I was looking at something like this a while back... something simple on a linux backend... PM me if you want to "chat" about it. ( pun intended )

Authentication would be through ssh. And yes, that would mean, another database of credentials to manage...

One of the other admins mentioned Discord as an option.

I believe PHP and MySQL particularly the former, are the requisite back-ends to any message board being created from the ground up. There are hosting sites such as SiteGround, A2Hosting and HostGator which provide the backbone upon which such can be built. Discord is another one - I have some experience in managing a forum - can help if needed

Thanks @ManSinha. If it comes to that I'll definitely take you up on it.

Why is an RF chat room full of trolls a problem?

It sounds fun to me.

Perhaps you could move the USA politics stuff there, until after the election?

My biggest worry about not having it pw protected is that anyone could log in as anyone else.
