So, does anyone here have any knowledge on the essential points of philosophy? I'll give you a hint, there is five!

So lets narrow it down to, how important is philosophy? And, what exactly is the purpose of pursuing philosophical thought? How do the five most relative points of philosophy, expound upon all of the natural thought processes and its application to the world beyond the philosophers eyes?

    Close but no cigar :D

Should I tell? You probably actually already know what they are.

Ok, metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, and politics.

Do we know why these sum up the general understanding of philosophy?

Hmmmm. Sounds like questions to a homework assignment. ;) I'll pass, thank you.

    Homework?

    :biglaugh:

I'm trying to make a conclusive point, but I guess it does seem rather dull to some.

Replace politics with ontology and add logic.

So lets narrow it down to, how important is philosophy?

Vitally important for living a good life, but it need not be philosophy read from books. Everyone's a philosopher and psychologist to one degree or another.

And, what exactly is the purpose of pursuing philosophical thought?

Living the life according to one's will - with clarity in formulating that will.

How do the five most relative points of philosophy, expound upon all of the natural thought processes and its application to the world beyond the philosophers eyes?

    Can you rephrase this?

    Politics? Don't you mean 'logic'?

Wait, can't ontology be listed as a branch of metaphysics?

No idea. I never heard of politics being listed as an essential "point" of philosophy.

No, as metaphysics deals with the beyond physical, and many forms of ontology will reject the need for such in identifying a being, and a ground of being.

It is, by definition in reference to an understanding in the department of metaphysics.

What do you mean by points? Like, types of philosophy? (metaphysics, morality, epistemology, ontology, and aesthetics)

politics had to come before logic for us to become civilised enough to acknowledge it?

Yep. We could probably condense metaphysics between ontology & epistemology, some philosophies will reject its need entirely.

There are some semantical errors with the words you are using ;)

So did language, want to chalk it up too? Philosophy may inform an understanding of politics, but it's surely not an essential point of philosophy.

Politics can remain, and 'metaphysics' usually refers to ontology. Logic is a branch of epistemology--it is how we know validity.*

*Edit: or better yet, the quality of validity.
