I'll likely miss some. "Jesus Christ Superstar" pulled belief out of the meaningless world of churches and into my world.

"Contact" was fuel for thought. "Arrival" was thought provoking.

"Ender's Game" Pessimistic, Heart wrenching.

"le miserables" Profoundly sad.

"Attraction" Russian Language Movie. Very deep. Gave me hope for Russians.

All the metanoia films completely change the way I look at politics:

Films | Metanoia Films

This film change the way I thought about the banking system:

(YouTube is always taking this video down so the link may not last long)

And this one change the way I thought about the Kennedy assassination:

Everything Is a Rich Man's Trick - Top Documentary Films

In terms of movies like "Ender's Game", I thought the Hunger Game ones were good.

Supposedly, all movies are about the same story, the Hero's Adventure as described here:

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.

I actually like Jesus Christ Superstar. When I was a Christian that was my favorite version of The Passion Play. I still like it to this day even as an exChristian.

The most influential movies in my personal life would be Billy Jack and Circle of Iron.

Runner-ups would be Little Buddha and the movie Legend.

Hunger Games had too much menacing for me.

He is DANGEROUS:

PRIEST ONE
Good Caiaphas, the council waits for you.
The Pharisees and priests are here for you.
CAIAPHAS
Ah gentlemen, you know why we are here.
We've not much time, and quite a problem here
MOB (outside)
Hosanna! Superstar!
Hosanna! Superstar!
Hosanna! Superstar!
Hosanna! Superstar!
ANNAS
Listen to that howling mob of blockheads in the street!
A trick or two with lepers, and the whole town's on its feet.
ALL (inside)
He is dangerous!
MOB (outside)
Jesus Christ Superstar!
ALL (inside)
He is dangerous!
MOB (outside)
Tell us that you're who they say you are.
PRIEST TWO
The man is in town right now to whip up some support.
PRIEST THREE
A rabble rousing mission that I think we must abort.
ALL (inside)
He is dangerous!
MOB (outside)
Jesus Christ Superstar!
ALL (inside)
He is dangerous!
PRIEST TWO
Look Caiaphas, they're right outside our yard.
PRIEST THREE
Quick Caiaphas, go call the Roman guard.
CAIAPHAS
No, wait!
We need a more permanent solution to our problem.
ANNAS
What then to do about Jesus of Nazareth?
Miracle wonderman, hero of fools.
PRIEST THREE
No riots, no army, no fighting, no slogans.
CAIAPHAS
One thing I'll say for him -- Jesus is cool.
ANNAS
We dare not leave him to his own devices.
His half-witted fans will get out of control.
PRIESTS
But how can we stop him?
His glamour increases
By leaps every moment; he's top of the poll.
CAIAPHAS
I see bad things arising.
The crowd crown him king; which the Romans would ban.
I see blood and destruction,
Our elimination because of one man.
Blood and destruction because of one man.
ALL (inside)
Because, because, because of one man.
CAIAPHAS
Our elimination because of one man.
ALL (inside)
Because, because, because of one, 'cause of one, 'cause of one man.
PRIEST THREE
What then to do about this Jesus-mania?
ANNAS
How do we deal with a carpenter king?
PRIESTS
Where do we start with a man who is bigger
Than John was when John did his baptism thing?
CAIAPHAS
Fools, you have no perception!
The stakes we are gambling are frighteningly high!
We must crush him completely,
So like John before him, this Jesus must die.
For the sake of the nation, this Jesus must die.
ALL (inside)
Must die, must die, this Jesus must die.
CAIAPHAS
So like John before him, this Jesus must die.
ALL (inside)
Must die, must die, this Jesus must, Jesus must, Jesus must die!

"They Might Be Giants" Here's a link to an important section with a message that resonates with me. I'm putting it under a spoiler alert for anyone who might want to watch the movie.

Contact is awesome. How faith and science can partner up.

The Last Temptation of Christ - shows what can be done with creative extension of scripture

Star Wars (saw it when I was 9 when it came out) - Frozen...but for boys

Peter Brook's The Mahabharata - my introduction to the other greatest story ever told

I actually like Jesus Christ Superstar. When I was a Christian that was my favorite version of The Passion Play.

And very accurate, the part of Jesus was verbatim from the Gospel of John.
'Music of the Heart', true story
'The Queen', the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana, left me with both admiration and disgust.
'The Day After Tomorrow', 'The Arrival'
'Gandhi'

Honestly
Life of Brian.
Taught me that literally anything can and should be mocked. Incidentally I am most suspicious of anything that can't be made fun of. Things that are always likely to get people killed or kill in the name of. Hmm.
Also Rocky Horror. Introduced me to cult film in general.
Oh and Lord of the Rings. My generation's version of Ben Hur or The 10 Commandments. Need I say more?

It's hard to pick the most influential movies.
None affected my worldview...that I can discern.
But some are memorable for impressing me with what a movie can accomplish....
Gattaca (1997)
The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
It's A Mad Mad Mad World (1963)
Psycho (1960)
Forest Gump (1994)
Paths Of Glory (1957)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Aliens (1986)
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Fargo (1996)
These have compelling stories, wonderful acting, & really show
how cinematic music is so important. There are more than those
above, but this list gives a good broad sampling.

Hmmm....1994-97 looks like a great period in movie making.

When I was a kid I liked Ben hur, zulu, Jason and the argonauts, hornblower and heroic stuff and all quiet on the western front.

The life of Brian was a comedy masterpiece, young frankenstein, dumb and dummer, blazing saddles and withnail and i, so many to list.
