From what I've seen atleast, there does tend to be a pure hatred of Homo-sexuals from fundies, to the point where it seems to take priority over the other more serious so-called "Sins". Yes.

I dunno really, I guess there's a whole pool full of potential reasons. However as pointed out, an extreme religious view tends to be one of the main reasons. Unfortunately however, there's plenty of Homophobia within even the secular and moderate-theist community.

I'd say a lot of it also has to do with how Men are brought up, and how in our struggle to understand our Gender and identity, such things which we feel insecure about can quickly be seen as a threat.

Well the idea that homosexuality is a sin in Christianity really doesn't even have a good base. One could argue the Torah is against it, but it's also against eating pork and shellfish. The verses in the NT fundies often use to bash gays can be interpreted in many other ways besides the popular way, and it seems they like to interpret them specifically that way to demean gays.

Yeah a lot of fundies like to interpret scripture to fit their agenda. That's why I find it odd when people say Homo-sexuality is wrong and then toss scripture at me to sort of "verify" it.

The Westboro Baptists certainly show a lot of hate towards homosexuals themselves.

Fundies are just more outwardly hypocritical and self righteous than the rest of us. I think they subscribe to this notion that certain things should be exploited more than others. But that makes sense, considering that they tend to be hyprocritical and self righteous.

I could believe that a lot of conservative Christians generally do hate the sin, love the sinner, but corporate conservative Christianity lacks the compassion towards sinners that validates the sentiment.

I am a christian. I don't hate homosexuals. I am not obsessed with them, either. In a typical day, I scarcely give them a thought. I am more concerned with the bad state of the church in America, and the fact that american christians aren't witnessing much. I am also very concerned with some of the more worldly issues, like the threats to America's national security. If someone asks me, though, I will tell him what I believe, which is that sexual union between members of the same gender is always wrong.

How can one really hate the sin and love the sinner anyway? People are defined by their actions, and to say you hate what a person does to make them happy is to say you hate them as a person. I'm not defending what all people do to make them happy, such as pedophiles and murderers, but what gays do is consensual, so where is the justification, other than in this or that holy text, for hating them?

If people say they don't hate us, but they demonize us and oppose our full equality under the law, I don't believe them. Talk's cheap; their actions say everything.

Are you suggesting we should embrace alcoholism since individuals are defined by their actions? Are you saying that a person cannot love and except an alcoholic but hate the addiction he/she has?

Are you equating homosexuality with alcoholism?

I am equating people with actions and how one can embrace a person without the action?

I love Christians, but I hate Christianity. Christianity is an evil and destructive lifestyle. Christians should not be allowed to marry or to enjoy any of the privileges usually associated with marriage, like hospital visitation, Social Security benefits, inheritance of property, or any of the other 1100+ benefits of marriage. Because it's vital to protect children, Christians must not be allowed to adopt children or teach in schools. We must do everything we can to educate children about the dangers of Christianity. For instance, Christians are more likely to be sexual predators than non-Christians, more likely to be promiscuous, and more likely to have sex with animals. Christians are less likely than non-Christians to be intelligent or educated. 99.7% of people who drown puppies are Christians. Christians like to practice vaginal fisting and eat feces. Christians beat their children with bike chains and burn them with cigarettes. Christianity is the main threat to our civilization. Tolerating Christianity will destroy our country and bring down the wrath of God. We have to do everything we can to oppose this sick and perverted lifestyle. But I love Christians. Really, I do.

Yes, but I guess the big problem with equating the two, is that alcoholism causes real tangible harm. If someone is homosexual it doesn't cause physical harm to anyone. Not to mention that homosexuality is someone's nature. It would be like saying it's wrong to be brunet, or blond.

Yes actions do say everything. Tell me, are all queers alike? I mean all Christians are alike right?

Myself, I am way more upset with divorced people getting married again than I ever was worried about what happens in a persons bedroom.

I get much more furious at parents that raise unruly disrespectful children.

The thing is Smoke, you may even the score by hating people who hate you even more, but that changes little.

Until the ignorant are educated, queers will suffer. Or at least until 51% get educated anyway.

I wish you would listen to yourself for a minute, "until we repress these damn Christians, the queers will never be free." :ignore:

I know life may suck being you, but don't blame all of us Christians, some of us are seeing the light and are willing to pull the right lever in the ballot box for you. :rainbow1:

Oh, for crying out loud, Rick. You know I don't hate you or Christians in general. My husband is a Christian. I have never suggested (unless I was being sarcastic) that Christians ought to be repressed. And my life doesn't suck. And my life is good, despite all the best efforts of the Religious Right. I'm probably one of the happiest people on RF.
