Trump was elected as a form of pushback from the DNC pushing identity politics as a reason to elect someone. We elected Obama and re-elected him because the Left kept screaming "You're a racist if you don't vote for him!" The Left tried the same thing with HRC(calling anyone voting for Trump a sexist) and the states away from the coasts rebelled and voted with their middle finger(Yes, I know I'm oversimplifying things.) As far as divisive, you musn't forget Obama yelling that Romney, the most milquetoast of milquetoast Republicans, was going to put people back in chains as he was putting children in cages on the border.(Yes, those photos are from the Obama administration.) The far left of the DNC seems to have lost the plot and, if anything, Trump may very well be the last POTUS, of any party, while our fragmented nation balkanizes.Honestly I think Trump will be the last GOP POTUS for years to come as Dems have proposed solutions that appeal to the general population while the GOP merely blocks. Compromise is dead anyways. Part of this problem is due to the two party system itself.
EDIT: I think of him as a mouthy Gorbechev
