I've often praised President Donald J. Trump for living up to most of his promises he made to us right-wing populist American nationalists. I really like the job Donald J. Trump has done in the first three years of his public servitude as our P.O.T.U.S. I've read that many political scientists consider Abraham Lincoln to have been one of our greatest Presidents. A 53 percent majority of my fellow Republicans now consider Donald J. Trump to be a better President than was Abraham Lincoln.

Trump might be better than Warren G. Harding. Or maybe Millard Fillmore. But not Lincoln.

Definitely not. Lincoln fought and died to preserve the Union. Trump will have left it painfully and heavily divided.

Trump acts like a boss not a leader. He has yet to face anything close to the issues Lincoln had to face. The GOP's last leader POTUS was Eisenhower. Trump does not even make it to my top 15 of great POTUS including GOP and Dems.

He is a source of division but not the cause of it. Division in the USA has been building for decades. Trump is a symptom not the disease just like Clinton and her babble was a cause as well. I doubt anyone at this time can fix the division in the USA on their own or at a party level.

Abraham Lincoln helped end slavery, and our Trump-led Trumped-up economy has helped their descendants become as prosperous as ever with the lowest black unemployment rate in U.S. history. Are not both of these equally great accomplishments?

This analysis must wait until his term(s) is/are over. We compare past presidents. He has yet to fulfill his #1 duty which is to step down when it is time.

I can't wait to see how the political pundits or how historians will rank Trump's Presidency.

Most of us probably don’t associate Abraham Lincoln with concepts like ethnic cleansing, but Honest Abe had one thing he wanted almost as much as a slavery-free America—an America that was completely and utterly devoid of black people.

For nearly his entire life, Lincoln supported—and, at times, was the driving force behind—a plan to round up every black person in the country and forcibly ship them to another one. This wasn’t just an idle wish, either. In 1863, Lincoln personally approved an order for freed slaves to be sent to remote colonies in Central and South America. A “test” shipment of 450 emancipated slaves was even dispatched to Haiti, where their new colony was devastated by smallpox and starvation and the survivors had to be rescued. As late as fall 1864, Lincoln still intended to go ahead with this plan in some form or another, believing that whites and blacks would never be able to live together as equals. It’s possible that he even held this less-than-enlightened position right up until the very end.

All in all, over 300 newspapers and journals were shut down by executive order. In an age when casual criticism of the press by the White House is often regarded as a threat to the First Amendment, it is odd that Lincoln still receives such ritual respect. No president in history held freedom of speech or freedom of the press in greater contempt.

Does it make him terrible as listening to reason changed his mind on that?

Lincoln was addressing an illness of society in the form of slavery which resulted in it's destruction as a legal institution in the nation. Trump is focusing on the economy not social issues. While a strong economy can have benefits for many it does not resolve specific social issues directly. The two are not close to being equal. The USA has major social issues that need to be addressed regardless if we agree on solutions to those issues. Trump is not being a leader in this regard nor is the GOP.

Honestly I think Trump will be the last GOP POTUS for years to come as Dems have proposed solutions that appeal to the general population while the GOP merely blocks. Compromise is dead anyways. Part of this problem is due to the two party system itself.

Lincoln was pretty much the authoritarian president stealing from congress many of the powers given it by the constitution. Sending many of his political opponents to prison and denying them the right of habeas corpus.

He wasn't exactly a president under normal circumstances. Playing nice, playing by the rules, that doesn't always work and does sometimes ends bad. Lincoln, it seems, handled necessary oversteps of power in a responsible way, having done so to preserve the Union and succeeding in doing so.

Nope, the gap in employment between black and white hasn't change and their level of workforce participation is stable. In other words, those low unemployment stats are dopped by people leaving the workforce altogether not getting new jobs. The level of relative prosperity of afro-americans is stable and has been fairly stable for decades. Riches gap is also enlarging at a steady rate under Trump presidency. Trump is widely considered so far as one of the worst POTUS in history. Holding to your promise isn't a quality when those promises are harmful to the US population, its prestige, its long term prosperity and its stability.
