The clickbait generation.The media isn't race obsessed. It's money obsessed.
Media outlets exists to sell advertising. They need to capture people's attention so they can expose them to the advertising. And the media outlets have discovered that stories about racism, sexism, politics and social strife capture people's attention. So they look for those stories and exaggerate them as much as the can. Because the more attention they gain from it, the more money they make from the advertising.

Most murders don't make it to the national media. We have people shot to death all the time in my city and their names or faces aren't mentioned.
