Is Porn Inherently Degrading?

DallasApple

Depends Upon My Mood..
I personally don't want my wife sleeping with anyone else, no.

Why?..its equivelant emotionally and psycholgically to going to work in an office answering phones and typing on a computer. You are "sharing" your wifes brain and her talents the same as a porn star shares theirs. Why would one have a negative impact on you and the other wouldnt?

And Im not talking about her "sleeping" with someone else..Im talking about her having all kinds of sex with many differernt men regulary as a means to earn income.Where she will be offered bonuses for things such as tripple penetration..Hey..whats your problem?..Its no differerent than if she is working in a dept store selling cosmetics. As long as she agrees to it...Why would it bother you...?

Porn doesn't negatively affect everyone who participates in it. You might think those people are all worse off for having done it, but that's only your opinion, and not necessarily shared by them or everyone.

I never said "all"..So how many need to be exploited and left injured and damaged emotionally and physically in order for it to be worth someone having a mastabatory aid ?and for a bunch of sleazy sleeze balls to gain wealth off of the human suffering?

We arent talking about a few out of the ordinary extreme cases..

Just like in war.Eventually the body count is not worth achieving the original goal.

Ah, I see. The problem is that I'm just talking from my point of view here. This is not objective. My wife hooking is different to me because of my personal relationship with her. Her sleeping with other guys for money instead of working in an office is only different because of my personal preference, my desire not to share her with other guys. Can you tell me why it would be different objectively?

And this is why this is not a good conversation for you. You're missing the point. If you agree that not all porn actors/actresses are negatively affected by their experience, then you have to admit that porn is not inherently degrading or harmful. However, you go on to make a case for cleaning up the industry, rather than addressing the issue at hand, which is only whether or not porn is inherently degrading.

Nevermind Mball..

It bothers "you personally"..But the people (the millions ) in the industry are there because they love it..and they make "good money"..

And Im not the only one that got offf the topic of is it "ihererently degrading"..It was compared as it has been many times to any other job..And that is a ball faced lie...

The point is there is no escaping it is "personal" to the vast majority of workers as well..And that is why they are at an extremely high risk for emotional injury..not to mention the specific physical risk..

Im saying someone wanting to whack off to porn is not worth the COST of human suffering that goes along with it..

Some of them, yes.

No, it was compared to other jobs in some aspects. In the aspects in question, it is like other jobs. The challenge is to then show why those other jobs aren't degrading while porn is.

You're mixing arguments here. I said it's a personal choice by me according to my beliefs. I wouldn't want my wife doing it because of how I personally view the subject. The people in porn don't necessarily see it that way.

Im saying someone wanting to whack off to porn is not worth the COST of human suffering that goes along with it..

And I'm saying that's not the point. Porn can exist without the suffering.

Just because a lot of child actors end up on drugs or alcohol and destroying their lives doesn't mean that we should do away with child actors. We just need to be careful with them. The same goes for porn.

And what Im saying Mball..Is without the previously traumatised, without the drug addicted. ..WITHOUT the extreme explotation of MANY ..there would NOT be enough porn to go around to feed the ensasiable appetites of people who do not give a FLIP about anything but getting their rocks off from a visual that turns them on..There would not be enough people (healthy willing people) to stuff the guts of the fat sleazy pigs that gain much wealth therefore they need to tap in on and prey on he weak in the mind..and the desperate..Especially the young...

And which pray tell...child would you pluck out of obscurity and carefully mold them to perform sexual acts on film for men to masturbate over?

And how would you counsel them..NO I wouldnt let my own wife do this..(but thats personal)..But YOU can do it...Its not "personal' to YOU like it is me...

Trying to say its "not personally" harmful to millions..Is being an idiot..

Look...as long as its not your loved ones..your wife your mother...your sister..Why should you give a flying flip...

If the people you watch and orgasm too have to get doped up to be able to do it..they are used and thrown away and left to deal with the ramifications of being "star"...have to struggle to come to terms ...AND are broke...(look up the salaries...people LIE about how well paid porn stars are)...Its certaintly not YOUR problem..You are safe...

I got into this thread late, so some of this is addressing statments made way earlier in the thread.

Honestly, I think it's all subjective. We all have differing opinions on what is artistic.

We also have different things we can get off on. Something I view as simply artistic, somebody else can view as "hot" and get off on it, and vice versa.

Also, whether or not it is degrading is based on the person viewing it. If watching porn lowers one's opinion of the people in the film, then they view it as degrading. But if anyone views it like me, the people in the film are just doing their job: providing stimulus for viewers to get off on.

Feminist groups argue that it is degrading to women. Well first off, the argument suggests that the actions of a few women affect the whole. The thing is, the people who believe that "if these girls will do that, maybe all women will" are retarded and are people you wouldn't want to deal with anyway.

On the subject of rough sex, THAT can be, by definition, degrading, but it's not something to judge people on. For one thing, the preference for rough sex, abusive speech during sex, choking, sadism, masochism, etc. can be psychologically linked (listen to KROQ's Loveline with Dr. Drew, haha). For some strange reason, we as human beings are attracted to the things we experience in childhood, even if they are traumatic. So if someone was sexually abused, they are likely (note, likely) to be attracted to abusive/rough sex (or even abusive relationships) when they get older. Which is why there is porn that depicts it.

According to the Structural Functional Theory of Porn, if it exists, there is porn for it :p

It's odd how past sexual assault and/or abuse would lead a woman toward prostitution, porn or general promiscuity. I would've thought that it would've made them shy away from sexual encounters, but of course I'm no psychiatrist either.

Yeah, I thought that too until I started taking classes and listening to Dr. Drew. We humans are pretty messed up in the head sometimes.

Sometimes, it makes logical sense though.

Say if a girl is raped, she becomes promiscuous. She becomes promiscuous to make sex less personal, therefore making the rape less damaging (in her mind).

Being raped also loweres your self esteem..and your self confindence. So you are an easier target for someone to take advantage of you.

How about if it DOESNT exist..Porn producers are challenged to create it to fatten up their sleazy wallets.

Dallas, you're missing the point here. I'm not sure how you're twisting the "personal" part of it. I said it's a personal choice for me. I don't want my wife doing hard labor either. Does that mean that hard labor is inherently degrading or wrong?

Do you agree that not all porn actors/actresses are damaged by their experience in the industry?

(Assuming your answer is "Yes" since you've already indicated such) Doesn't that mean that porn is not inherently harmful?

Then doesn't that mean that porn is acceptable, but some of the methods used in making some of it might not be? And so, shouldn't we concentrate on those methods rather than just trying to get rid of the medium altogether?

No..with porn it was you didnt want to "share" your wife..Share what?..Its just a job..Like hard labor..What you mean you want to keep all your wifes hard labor to yourself? And besides that..She would be getting to do what she "likes' to do anyway AND she will make super money doing it!

There is a difference..and there is a reason for it..Because it involves DEEP emotional AFFECTS and HIGH risk for abuse and physical injury!

The point is Mball..Its "just a job"..It shouldnt"bother" you if your wife made a living that way..Its NO different than being a secretary using your fingers to type and your brain to do math..Its just another part of your body that you use to earn a living.Everyone wins...

If you are bothered by it maybe you have some personal hang ups..I don't know..But there is nothing "inherently" bad about your wife being a "porn star" for a living.(as long as its safe)
