Is being an atheist or a theist to miss the point ?

Nah, to approach from a different angle I guess. Being in the middle or so can miss the point just as hard as the point is unknown ;)

Hi BB, I'm not talking about being in the middle.
What I mean is does it matter a whit whether God exists or not ?
Could it be that what's important is that we exist ?

Those questions would be part of your "the point" wich is still unknown. So I can't really tell.. Personally I doubt that that is the meaning of our existance though.. admitting something..

Violet.
The important admission perhaps...
is that we create and embrace our own meanings?

And it doesn't matter a hoot weather "we're right"
but more...
"how wonderfully have we lived out our life?"

What have we done
to write a beautiful/witty/clever/lovely/ powerful/creative story
of our life.... of our very existence?

Every life is a "fiction" that becomes our "REALity"
to the same extent as we give it it's meaning(s).

So do we try to "explain" it?
Or create something extra-ordinary with/in it?

I cannot give you frubals Violet but I think that is excellent.

Which point would that be?

Your belief or disbelief in a higher being may or may not motivate you in a positive or negative way.

However, it is still your belief.

I think the point is that these words (in fact all words) are just tools that we use. We use them to serve our needs. I think that problems often arise when people dedicate themselves to serving these labels.

Yeah.... well in the end I finally decided on "theist"
because it turns your name PURPLE.

"non-theist" makes you orange!
A definate no go for me.
I like orange. It makes me think of Halloween. :witch::pumpkin::bat:

I LOVE Halloween fantome!:witch:

In fact both orange AND purple are very Halloween!
YAY!

(But purple IS purple and I AM UltraViolet.
It's quite understandable really.)

We're both right. It's just a matter of the "shades" you wear.

(nothing of the "rose colored" variety please!);)

I don't see how it is incoherent for an atheist to say "God does not exist" and also "this doesn't really matter". Indeed, this appears to be what the majority of them do.

It is possible the existence of deity might not matter to some people even though they have had -- or believe they have had -- an experience of deity.

We all have our deciding factors and bottom lines.
Why isn't my name orange? It used to be green.

Green glows in the dark.
Also very halloween.
(though I still prefer UV/blacklight myself)

So what did green stand for?
And what happened?

Did you lose your glow?

If you want to be orange you'll have to become a non-theist.
Is that a problem for you?

If you're flourescent orange
you can still come on over and glow under my UV rays.

It's really not a problem either way.

Just choose your thing.
