I'll agree to disagree. The caste system can be used oppressively, but so can the way we have our society stratified (poor, working class, middle class, etc). And to move from one to the other, while possible, is extremely difficult.

We just have our own caste system, and call it something different.

Classism is also bad. At least economically you can (in theory) move up the ladder. Not so with the garbage caste system.

The caste system allows as much mobility as our class system.

Edit: we even have an 'untouchable' class, the indigent and homeless, or those who can't work.

It's morally right for them to defend their freedom, democracy, and sovereignty. Allowing despots to act with impunity would set a horrible precedent.

That's your take, which is fine & dandy, but it isn't mine. IMO, we can best defend democratic & humanistic values by living them out and encouraging others to do the same. OTOH, if our impulse is to go to war, then we become a large part of the problem, especially in today's nuclear age. Either we try our best to live in peace or this world will become torn into pieces.

But I do agree that Gandhi's advice that Jews and others resist Hitler nonviolently is absurd.

What Gandhi posited was that cowardice cannot be an option, not that getting into war should be an option for his followers.
